Main Purpose (Role):

The CIC & OT Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, fault finding and repair of communication, instrumentation and control (CIC) and operational technology (OT) systems supporting mining operations. This includes underground and surface communication systems, networks, instrumentation, control and automation systems, and the associated OT infrastructure.

The role ensures the availability, integrity and security of these systems, minimising downtime and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and mine safety procedures.

Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities):

  • Install, maintain and fault-find underground and surface communication systems, including leaky feeder, radio, telephony, VoIP, public address and emergency communication systems.
  • Install, terminate, test and maintain data and fibre optic networks, network switches, wireless access points, patch panels and structured cabling.
  • Maintain and support operational technology infrastructure, including OT servers, industrial network devices, system backups, user access and patching, in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Install, calibrate, test and maintain field instrumentation, including transmitters, sensors, level, flow, pressure and temperature devices, and associated control loops.
  • Support PLC, SCADA and automation systems, including fault diagnosis, signal tracing, input/output checks and liaison with the systems owner on configuration changes.
  • Install, maintain and fault-find CCTV, access control, tracking and monitoring systems and their associated cabling and power supplies.
  • Support planned maintenance shutdowns, equipment overhauls and the commissioning of new or repaired systems, and comply with preventive maintenance schedules and assigned work orders.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration reports, network and configuration documentation, and shift handover documentation, and report defects and cyber or safety risks promptly to the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or an equivalent discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, OR Technician Part III Certificate (Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in mining, heavy industrial or process plant operations.
  • MINCOM certification, network certification (e.g. CCNA or equivalent), instrumentation and calibration training, permit-to-work system training, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) training, working at heights training and first aid certification are highly desirable.

Technical Competencies  

Advanced proficiency in communication, instrumentation, control and operational technology systems, including leaky feeder and radio systems, VoIP and telephony, fibre optic and structured data networks, network switching, CCTV and access control, field instrumentation and calibration, PLC and SCADA support, OT network administration and backups, fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and safe maintenance practices within a mining environment.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in the installation, maintenance, configuration and fault finding of communication, instrumentation, control and operational technology systems.
  • Experience with underground communication systems, data and fibre networks, instrumentation calibration, PLC/SCADA support, CCTV and monitoring systems within a mining or heavy industrial environment is required.
