Established in 2006, MSI Reproductive Choices, Ghana is an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices and is one of the largest specialized Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) organisations in Ghana. MSI Reproductive Choices Ghana complements the Ministry of Health and Child Care in the provision of quality and affordable general health and SRH services in all regions of Ghana.

Position Details

  • Location: Accra, with travel across Ghana and occasional international travel
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Reporting Line: Country Director
  • Probation: 3 months

About The Role

The Director of Medical Services (DMS) is a senior leader and a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), responsible for providing strategic leadership for clinical governance, quality, and safety across all MSIG service delivery channels.

As Head of the Medical Development Team (MDT), the DMS sets out the clinical vision and direction for static centers, outreach, public sector health system strengthening, and other clinical platforms. The role ensures that clinical services consistently meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and client-centered care, while remaining aligned with MSIG’s mission, organizational objectives, and financial sustainability.

The DMS serves as the principal authority on clinical standards, quality assurance, and risk management, and represents MSIG on all clinical matters internally and externally. The role also contributes to the wider MSI partnership through clinical leadership, research, innovation, and capacity strengthening.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Technical Clinical Leadership

  • Provide strategic clinical leadership as a member of the SMT.
  • Set, review, and implement MSIG’s clinical strategy across all service delivery channels.
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of medical policies, standards, and protocols in line with MSI, GHS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as MSIG’s principal authority on clinical governance, quality assurance, and clinical risk management.
  • Maintain strong engagement with the GHS, regulators, professional bodies, and SRH stakeholders.
  • Represent MSIG in media engagements and public forums on clinical and SRH issues as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain a functional Medical Advisory Team (MAT) in line with MSI policies.
  • Lead clinical innovation and service expansion aligned with MSIG’s mission and sustainability goals.
  • Oversee the management and reporting of all clinical incidents in compliance with MSI policies.
  • Maintain close communication with the MSI Medical Development Team and disseminate clinical updates to MSIG teams.
  • Remain clinically current and, when required, support service delivery and training.

Quality Assurance and Clinical Risk Management

  • Monitor and continuously improve quality performance across all service delivery channels using dashboards and reports.
  • Ensure prompt and effective response to medical emergencies, complications, and logistical challenges.
  • Oversee annual internal and external Quality Technical Assessments (QTAs) in line with MSI procedures.
  • Track and ensure implementation of agreed QTA action plans and quality improvement measures.
  • Ensure QTA findings and lessons learned are effectively communicated across the organization.
  • Oversee medical supplies, emergency preparedness, and client safety systems.
  • Ensure robust clinical incident reporting systems and regular review of trends and learning.
  • Departmental Leadership and Capacity Building
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Medical Development Team, fostering accountability and professionalism.
  • Set and monitor departmental KPIs and performance objectives for direct reports.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and professional development of clinical staff in collaboration with HR.
  • Ensure MDT structure, roles, and resourcing are fit for purpose and aligned with programmatic needs.
  • Promote strong collaboration with other departments to support organizational goals.
  • Support clinical research, learning, and innovation initiatives.
  • Promote continuous professional development and knowledge sharing within the clinical teams.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Medicine with a Public Health specialty
  • Valid professional licensure and evidence of good standing with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years’ progressive leadership experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health programs
  • Strong clinical governance, supervisory, and quality assurance experience
  • Proven oversight of multi-site clinical networks
  • Experience in service expansion and integration of new SRH services
  • High-level competence in SRH clinical procedures including MVA, medical abortion, IUCD, implants, tubal ligation, and vasectomy
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and performance management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated cultural sensitivity to SRH issues
  • Must be pro-choice
