  • Prepare legal briefs and opinions and file appeals in court where necessary
  • Compile information for court cases by conducting legal research; finding laws or similar court decisions related to pending cases; interpreting laws or legislation, explaining government laws or regulations; analyzing data. legal questions and existing evidence or facts.
  • Gather evidence, examine legal data, argue motions, question witnesses and negotiate settlements of civil disputes.

  • Preparing and filing writs, pleadings, submissions, statements of cases, witness statements and other Court/ legal processes both 'for and against' the Institution.
  • Representing the Institution in the Court and other fora such as the Labour Commission, etc. when necessary.
 
  • Advising on civil matters such as high-profile cases that should be referred to the external Lawyers of the Institution. Liaising with the external Lawyers of the Institution in the discharge of their obligations to the Institution.
  • Advising on statutory compliances.
  • Researching and preparing legal opinions on civil matters affecting the Institution.
  • Drafting and/ or reviewing legal letters, contracts and agreements for and on behalf of the Institution and monitoring legal obligations under agreements to ensure

KEY PERFORMANCE OUTPUTS

  • Provide a full range of company secretarial services including acting as company secretary to Vivo Energy Ghana, attending board meetings, maintaining statutory registers and lodging statutory notices and forms.

  • Act as focal point for monitoring regulatory framework affecting the oil industry in Ghana. Act as a focal point for implementing appropriate corporate governance in Vivo Energy Ghana.
  • Manage the department’s resources so as to ensure that the companies are able to pursue their business objectives with optimum legal assistance.
  • Manage, control and monitor instructions to and expenditure by external lawyers engaged to render legal services.
  • Liaise with all functions and departments to facilitate interactive supportive roles and relationships.
 

Requirements

The incumbent must be a qualified attorney or advocate (or be similarly qualified in a foreign jurisdiction) and have at least five years’ of service as a legal advisor. Preferably, he/she must have had some involvement in or exposure to senior management.

As a legal advisor the incumbent must have a broad knowledge of the law and the practical application thereof.
