The successful candidate for this position will join the PMI VectorLink Project’s Ghana team as the team’s ITN Technical Advisor. Working across 23 countries in sub-Saharan Africa as well as Cambodia, the PMI VectorLink Project is equipping countries to plan and implement safe, cost-effective and sustainable life-saving malaria vector control interventions with the overall goal of reducing the burden of malaria. Specifically, the PMI VectorLink Project is building the capacity of country governments to use epidemiological, entomological, and coverage data to support the optimal deployment of vector control tools within each country context while promoting gender equity in all facets of planning and implementation.

The objectives of the PMI VectorLink Project in Ghana include:

  1. Strengthen continuous distribution of ITNs through routine health services, specifically antenatal care (ANC) clinics and child welfare clinics (CWC).
  2. Support post-2019 school-based distribution activities and prepare for 2020 school-based distribution activities.
  3. Strengthen national-level ITN distribution coordination.

Your contribution

  • Provide overall technical support and guidance to the PMI VectorLink ITN team and PMI VectorLink portfolio.
  • Together with the Program Manager, co-lead the PMI VectorLink ITN team’s execution of the ITN workplan, including, as stated above, implementation of various activities intended to support the National Malaria Control Program and Ghana Health Service to improve the delivery of ITNs through continuous distribution channels.
  • Engage closely and collaboratively with the National Malaria Control Program to ensure the PMI VectorLink ITN team’s activities align closely with the National Malaria Control Program’s strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Closely collaborate with the PMI VectorLink Chief of Party to ensure the PMI VectorLink ITN team’s activities contribute to the achievement of PMI/Ghana’s desired integrated vector control outcomes. Serve as an ITN technical resource for the PMI VectorLink Project in Ghana.
  • Represent the PMI VectorLink ITN team and PMI VectorLink Project externally with various stakeholders.
  • Engage with the PMI Impact Malaria Project and other PMI projects to identify and act on opportunities for engagement.

 

What are we looking for?

Education

You hold a relevant graduate degree (MPH, MBA, MSc, etc.) in public health, logistics management, marketing, or business.  Alternatively, you have a bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of additional relevant experience.

 

Experience

You have at least 8 years of relevant experience working with malaria control programs in Ghana, preferably ITN-related programs.  As a demonstrated leader in the field of malaria control in Ghana, you have an established reputation.  You have proven experience designing or managing ITN continuous or mass distribution activities.  However, despite your experience, you are an information sponge and understand what worked yesterday may not necessarily work today (or tomorrow), that each context is different.

 

Savviness

As a proven leader with a positive reputation in the field of malaria control in Ghana, you have demonstrated an ability to contribute to the vector control technical and policy debate in Ghana.  You are a proactive leader who catalyzes innovation by both leading and working through others.  You know how to get things done.  You quickly distil complexity to essential and simple concepts and approaches.

 

Collaboration

You are able to coordinate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders in numerous locations and levels, including donors, government officials and bodies, other technical experts, other implementing organizations, civil society organizations, community members and organizations, private sector entities, and project support staff.  As an established leader in the field of malaria control in Ghana, ideally, you have a close, collaborative relationship with the Ghana Health Service and National Malaria Control Program and experience working with diverse donors, including USAID, PMI, DFID, Global Fund, BMGF.

 

Communication

You write with clarity and feel comfortable speaking up when you have something important to say. You’re not afraid of public speaking and have developed good skills in this arena. You have excellent interpersonal skills, with great experience communicating across cultures. Ability to work in English is essential.

 

This position is pending donor approval. References will be required. Must be authorized to work in Ghana.  N.B. PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship and relocation expenses will not be covered for this position.
