A reputable financial institution has vacancy for the Head of Treasury role. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Receives and hold in authorised accounts all funds due to the Institution from authorised sources
  • Monitors market interest rate and maturity of time deposits and investment, search investment market for best products and recommend to management, funding strategies and steps to be taken to minimise returns without placing the Institution at risk
  • Manages the reserve position of the Institution as well as other regulatory requirements related to funding operations by monitoring compulsory savings collection, branch deposits and withdrawals for reserve monitoring and recommends possible actions to avoid central Bank’s penalty.
  • Identifies funding sources and negotiate for interest rates to minimize cost of funds
  • Signs payment vouchers and cheques for Finance Department, Treasury and Banking Operations
  • Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organisation by way of systems that improve the overall effectiveness of the Institution
  • Keeps complete and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements.
  • Takes custody of and controls debt investment contracts securities and bonds and similar valuable effects of the bank.
  • Monitors cash movement by ensuring timely and accurate bank reconciliation and other reconciliation against cash position report.
  • Appraises, plans, and provides for the institution’s short-term working capital and medium to long term funding requirements.
  • Reviews and recommends investment of deposits and idle funds (stocks and high yielding investments and placements) Keeps abreast of the market deposit rates and negotiates better rates with depository banks.
  • Establishes, communicates, and monitors financial accountability and spending limits at all management levels.
  • Sets up and manages simple yet appropriate system for managing and administering company funds.
  • Assists in setting direction, policies, and guidelines for the treasury function.
  • Consults with Management in recommending general risk parameters, overall trading position limits, and hedging/trading strategies.
  • Manages company investment portfolio and risk taking activities including interest rate and liquidity exposure, inter-bank exchange exposure, government securities trading and others.
  • Maintains pertinent documents such as checks, certificates of investments, and s, deposit slips of lodgements into Bank Accounts and others.
  • Handles debt issues and pricing decisions.
  • Manages the reserves position of the institution as well as other regulatory requirements related to funding operations by monitoring compulsory savings collection, branch deposits and withdrawals for reserve monitoring and recommends possible actions to avoid penalty.
  • Assists the Chief Finance to analyse and monitor Available Funds (Bank Balances).
  • Facilitates fund transfer when the need arises.
  • Prepares cash position schedule and cash reserve monitoring schedule.
  • Collects and summarizes area and branch cash flow projection.
  • Analyses and prepares cash flow to anticipate problems of funding.
  • Monitors maturity of the time deposits and other investments and recommends investment of due funds on time deposit, trust and other securities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced Degree in Finance, Accounting/ Management
  • Professional Banker (ACIB holder)
  • Minimum of 7 years commercial banking experience
  • Knowledge of Central Bank’s prudential requirements

Treasury Experience and Training

  • Experience and training in short and long-term investment of excess funds for optimum returns
  • Advanced knowledge, training and experience in accounting and treasury
  • Ability to identify opportunities and convert them into business success
  • Understands the scope of change in the finance industry and its impact on the institution
  • Knowledge of microfinance and banking industry
