Job Purpose

The Finance Controller will lead the accounts and finance function for the manufacturing business, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, statutory and internal compliance, robust financial controls, effective working capital management, and strong business partnering with plant and business unit stakeholders to protect margins and drive profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance

  • Lead the accounts and finance function, covering all core processes including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), Fixed Asset Register (FAR), and related activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and IFRS across all accounting processes.
  • Perform month-end financial closure activities - reconciliations, stock entries, provisions, etc. - within strict timelines and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Drive working capital optimisation across the business.
  • Maintain control over ageing of Debtors, Inventory, Creditors, etc., and guide the business in mitigating potential risks.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate fixed asset accounting and AR maintenance.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure timely and accurate statutory compliance, including Excise, VAT, income Tax, and other applicable regulations.
  • Ensure internal audit compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to all internal controls and processes.
  • Oversee stock and fixed asset verification.

MIS & Budgeting

  • Deliver on-time and accurate MIS with variance analysis.
  • Provide rolling forecasts on a monthly basis.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process.
  • Consolidate MIS and management reports.
  • Develop business KPIs and performance trackers.
  • Apply working knowledge of BOM, wastages, and material accounting within a manufacturing ERP environment.

Business Partnering

  • Work closely with Business Unit Managers (BUMs) and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the business in achieving optimum Material Requirement Planning (MRP).
  • Guide the business on working capital norms and flag any potential abnormalities.
  • Proactively take corrective action to mitigate risks relating to NMI/SMl/bad debts, etc.
  • Guide the business on raw material (RM) price movements and support pricing decisions.
  • Protect business margins and the bottom line.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or Cost & Management Accountant (CMA).

Experience

  • 7-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably within manufacturing industries.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS and the impact of exchange rate volatility on the business.
  • Experience working in an African market is desirable but not mandatory.

  • SAP / ERP systems
  • MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Effective utilisation of AF tools for finance and reporting productivity
