Role Summary

This is a contract, remote role for a Quality Assurance Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, executing, and reviewing test cases to ensure the quality of software products. Day-to-day tasks include conducting manual testing, identifying and reporting issues, collaborating with development teams to resolve defects, and ensuring that all software deliveries meet established standards. The role also involves participation in quality assurance processes to enhance the user experience and maintain reliability.

This role is focused on ensuring that software is not only delivered according to specification, but is robust, reliable, and resilient under real-world conditions. You will work closely with engineering and product teams to evaluate systems holistically — validating expected behaviour, identifying edge cases, and highlighting risks that may not be immediately visible in requirements or designs.

This position suits someone who is comfortable operating with partial information, and who can bring structure and clarity through a disciplined and methodical approach to testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute structured test strategies aligned to system complexity and risk
• Perform manual and exploratory testing across web applications, APIs, and integrated systems
• Analyse requirements and designs to identify gaps, ambiguities, and untested scenarios
• Validate systems beyond standard use cases, including edge conditions and failure paths
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure appropriate test coverage across unit, integration, and E2E layers
• Design and implement automated tests where they provide measurable value
• Contribute to CI/CD quality gates and release readiness processes
• Document and communicate defects with clear reproduction steps and impact context
• Support the evolution of QA practices, standards, and tooling

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in a QA / Software Testing role on production systems
• Strong capability in manual and exploratory testing, particularly in complex workflows
• Experience with API testing and debugging system interactions
• Familiarity with test automation frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar)
• Ability to independently translate requirements into effective test coverage
• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
• Comfortable working in fast-paced environments where requirements may evolve
• Clear and structured communication skills
• Experience working on complex or high-scale systems
• Exposure to React, Node.js, or similar modern web stacks
• Experience integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Jira, GitHub, and modern development workflows
• Experience contributing to or improving QA processes in a growing team
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Quality Assurance in the software industry, excluding university
