Supervisor: Oil Palm Operations - Plantations SOCFINAF Ghana

PSG is an Oil Palm and Rubber Plantations company located at Daboase in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.  It is a wholly owned subsidiary of SOCFINAF SA  of Luxembourg and has over 2,000 employees.

REPORTS TO: ESTATE MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE

To support the routine supervision of the operations of the Estates and to ensure its growth, development and their eventual harvesting to feed the Processing Plant with the needed raw materials to sustain the operations of the Plant.

JOB SUMMARY

To support the day-to-day administration and operations of the Estate to ensure its growth, development and eventual harvesting for processing and export or sell locally in order to recoup the resources sunk into the establishment and operations of the Company by its owners thereby ensuring profitability and in so doing, achieving the ultimate goals and objectives of the Company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize the workload on daily basis with anticipation: data from the field,
• For the harvest: calibration of the team based on the targeted harvesting intervals and ripe bunch density.
• Ensure follow-up on the workers out-out and daily basis to make sure the daily wage is reached for all workers: analyse gaps when any and with support of your hierarchy: be pro-active to solve those gaps.
• To follow-up daily, on the attendance of the workers.
• Ensure to hire the necessary human resources, with support of your hierarchy and the HR department to meet your target/budget.
• Spend the necessary time on the field to ensure SOP for both harvest and maintenance are being known and fully respected.
• Ensure training of your own managers to develop their management skills
• Follow-up daily on productivity and quality KPI such as visited surface for the harvest, chemical consumption, organic fertilizer application etc.
• Draw up a weekly and monthly programme for the field activities in consultation with the Estate Manager and Plantations Manager.
• Compile and submit monthly field reports, i.e. progress reports including monthly labour returns to the Estate Manager and Plantations Manager. 
• Plan and supervise the accurate recording of all field activities.
• Attend, supervise and control the daily muster to ensure speedy and orderly development of the workers to and from their places of work to the field.
• Guide field staff in the execution of the work programme to the prescribed work standard.
• Monitor and control the activities of your team (overseer, headmen, workers), check of the records filled on daily basis, physical checks on the field for both the quality of products and work, and ensure that technical and safety procedures are adhered to with due care for the environment.
• Plan every new field operation, brief staff, and train workers and more importantly, be present to supervise and control its implementation to ensure effectiveness.
• Check and certify all control forms, check rolls and attendance to work and clinic regularly.
• Ensure that all field staff are punctual, disciplined and observe laid down working hours.
• Train and develop all field staff, especially Headmen, Harvesters, Pruners and other teams.
• Supervise all vehicles/machines engaged in plantation work.
• Supervise all plantation stocks and stores.
• Ensure good industrial relations in the plantation
• Initiate purchases of tools, equipment and materials provided for in the annual plan.
• Raise requisition for tools, equipment and materials from the main stores for plantation work.
• Perform any other lawful duties assigned by the Estate Manager and the Plantations Manager as and when required.

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES & INDICATORS

• Supporting the day-to-day management of the Oil Palm Plantation.
• Supporting the implementation of plans and programmes at the Oil Palm Section.
• Supporting judicious use of materials at the Department.
• Facilitating contract management.
• Monitoring and evaluating field activities.
• Supporting and facilitating the training of the staff at the Section.
• Developing and producing technical reports.
• Forecasting, developing, preparing and implementing budgets.

Required Skills or Experience

• Higher National Diploma in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management with 4 years post-qualification experience as an Overseer OR First Degree in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management with 2 years post-qualification experience as an Overseer in an Agro-based industry. 

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

• Knowledge in client/customer service or management.
• Must be familiar with the operations of Agro-based industries in Ghana
• Knowledge in the use of the computer (Microsoft Word, Excel, and the internet, i.e. e-mail, outlook and spreadsheets).
• Competence in forecasting, developing, preparing and implementing budgets.
• Administrative and good people management skills.
• Competence in technical report writing
• Ability to ride a motorbike (with a license A) is an added advantage
