Job Purpose

  • Position the Business Desk as the market leader and top revenue generator, while cultivating a strong, positive influence within the business community.
  • Build the team into a high-performing, competitively driven unit and safeguard the integrity of our content by upholding ‘Credibility’ as the core pillar of our brand.

Key Accountabilities

  • You are responsible for the daily operations and overall management of the Business desk
  • You will lead the planning and execution of all Business Desk projects aimed at achieving market leadership, audience growth and increased revenue
  • You will collaborate in developing the business news strategy for the Business Desk
  • You will proactively conduct research into business news programming and advertise/listener needs to enhance productivity and improve service delivery
  • You will create brand extensions of existing programmes and develop bespoke content for the Business Desk
  • You will provide leadership and motivation to the team to ensure all objectives are achieved
  • You will lead recruitment efforts for the team and be responsible for retaining team members, managing welfare and morale and cultivating a sub-culture aligned with the organization’s overall culture
  • You are responsible for internal communication within the team
  • You will ensure that all unit content and team activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, policies and industry codes, including our editorial guidelines, the GJA code of ethics and our code of conduct

  • Market share growth, increase influence and clear market leadership
  • Strong financial performance, including revenue growth and profitability
  • High levels of customer satisfaction
  • Preservation of brand integrity and reputation
  • Compelling and competitive content
  • 100% quality control in editorial content and language

Qualification Required & Experience

  • First Degree in Business management, Communication, Social Science, preferably in television, radio, & online work or equivalent journalism experience
  • Minimum of 5 years or more years of working experience as a news editor or related supervisory position with a reputable organisation
  • Have achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas
  • Operational experience in TV, online and other relevant media
  • Marketing/brand management experience
  • Understanding/acceptance of the business model
  • Strategic – Able to see the bigger picture and highly analytical
  • Strong networks into Corporate Entities, Advertisers, Media Operators, Government Agencies and Civil Society Organizations
