Wholistic Medical Center, a 100-bed Medical Center requests the services of the following professional as a Herbal Medicine Practitioner
Job Summary
The Herbal Medicine Practitioner is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients using evidence-based herbal and natural remedies to promote health and prevent disease. The role involves preparing herbal prescriptions, offering lifestyle and dietary advice, ensuring the safe use of herbal products, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide holistic and integrated patient care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Assessment and Consultation
- Conduct comprehensive patient consultations, including medical history, diet, and lifestyle assessments.
- Identify underlying causes of illness or imbalance using holistic and evidence-informed approaches.
- Determine appropriate herbal and complementary treatment plans tailored to individual needs.

2. Prescription and Preparation
- Prescribe, prepare, or dispense herbal medicines in the form of teas, tinctures, capsules, or topical applications.
- Ensure accurate dosage and safe combination of herbal ingredients.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust prescriptions as necessary.
3. Education and Guidance
- Educate patients on the use, benefits, and safety of herbal medicines.
- Provide advice on nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and wellness strategies to complement herbal therapy.
- Promote preventive health and self-care through workshops or community health programs.
4. Quality Assurance and Safety
- Ensure all herbal products and raw materials meet safety and quality standards.
- Maintain detailed records of formulations, patient prescriptions, and treatment outcomes.
- Report and manage any adverse reactions or contraindications.
5. Research and Development
- Participate in clinical or laboratory research on medicinal plants and herbal formulations.
- Stay updated on the latest scientific and traditional knowledge in herbal medicine.
- Contribute to publications, conferences, or continuing education in herbal therapeutics.
6. Collaboration and Integration
- Work alongside medical doctors, nutritionists, pharmacists, and other health professionals to provide integrated care.
- Refer patients to conventional medical practitioners when necessary for further diagnosis or treatment.
7. Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate patient files and treatment records in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Manage inventory of herbal supplies and ensure proper storage conditions.
- Support the development of herbal medicine policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.

Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Herbal Medicine, Phytotherapy, or a related field (e.g., Complementary or Alternative Medicine).
- Certification or registration with a recognized professional or regulatory body where applicable.
- In-depth knowledge of medicinal plants, pharmacognosy, and human physiology.
- Understanding of drug–herb interactions, contraindications, and safety protocols.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy, ethical conduct, and a patient-centered approach to care.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in clinical herbal practice, natural product formulation, or phytopharmacology research.
- Knowledge of traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), or African Traditional Medicine.
- Competence in natural product quality control and preparation techniques.
- Basic business or clinic management experience.
