JOB POSTING: EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT: MEDICAL SERVICES

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

DURATION: ONE (1) YEAR COMMENCING DECEMBER 2025

ATTRACTION: GOOD REMUNERATION PLUS ACCOMMODATION

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide a high-quality emergency specialist service with a focus on excellence and patient safety.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical standards in the provision of emergency care.
  • Develop and implement Emergency Response Programmes including drills, mass casualty planning and other interventions beyond the Emergency and Intensive Care Units in collaboration with Management and other health professionals.
  • Facilitate the training of all Clinicians, Nurses, First Aid Responders, House Officers (Clinical), Medical Students, other identified personnel attached to AGAHF and Obuasi Mine.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal emergency and intensive care services.
  • Participate in and support clinical care supervision activities.
  • Promote quality healthcare delivery in a cost-effective and efficient manner .
  • Ensure availability of both up-to-date medical and administrative policies for emergency care.
  • Address inquiries and complaints from patients, families, staff, and management promptly and professionally, engaging relevant stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure completion of appropriate documentation requirements for medical, administrative, and regulatory purposes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the area of specialization through continuing professional development.
  • Provide oversight for the Emergency, Intensive Care, and Clinical Decision Units and First Aid Posts.
  • Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer and or Hospital Management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Membership - Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS), West African College of Physicians and Surgeons (WACPS), or an equivalent recognized body.
  • Permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council and in good standing.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and certification.
  • Minimum of one year post membership as an Emergency Physician Specialist in a similar role.
  • Additional certifications such as ATLS, BEC, ACLS, and PALS are advantageous.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of GHS patient charter and clinical protocols.
  • Understanding of quality assurance and clinical audit processes.
  • Experience in similar institutional settings is an asset.
  • Broad knowledge of hospital operations and services.
  • Strong organisational behaviour and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and take initiative.
  • Sound decision-making skills with a focus on patient outcomes.
  • Professional, respectful, and compassionate attitude toward patients and colleagues.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
