ROLE PURPOSE

The Electrical Supervisor – Electrical & Energy Management is accountable for providing technical support to mine wide electrical and energy management system by ensuring best electrical practices are in place to be compliant to statutory and regulatory requirements in line with company’s operational strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion. Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan.
  • Comply and follow the operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of the assigned job.
  • Support with the Implementation and coordinate the monitoring of all aspects of the Electrical Management System
  • Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana Agencies, environmental, health & safety legislation and AGAG regulation

  • Implement electrical equipment replacement policy
  • Support and ensure electrical power received from supply authority through the grid and emergency power distributed are compliant per best electrical standards
  • Assist to conduct short- and medium-term planning forecast and management of the following: Electrical power consumption, electrical facilities maintenance, working cost and capital budgeting and asset integrity of electrical equipment
  • Conduct periodic audits (walkthrough inspection and substation audits) of all Processing Plant, surface and UG Infrastructure electrical new build, later maintenance work
  • Support with the reviews of the electrical new build, later maintenance, of the Processing Plant, surface and UG Infrastructure to identify actions for continuous improvement
  • Assist the Electrical Engineer-EEM to develop/review electrical specifications relevant/applicable to Obuasi mine
  • Supervise electrical new build, later maintenance, work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
  • Support to ensure compliance to the Asset Integrity Program (AIP) on replacement of Oil Circuit Breaker (OCB) with vacuum/gas Circuit Breaker, etc
  • Generate work requests in SAP as required for maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Coordinate and ensure conduction of statutory tests such as annual dielectric test of all transformer oil, earth resistance, portable appliance test, etc.
  • Carry out energy conservation initiatives to reduce energy consumption
  • Support in refurbishment/maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of Electrical equipment as per requirements.
  • Conduct periodic Inspections on Lightning Arrestors and create the awareness mine wide
  • Gather information for the Electrical Engineer-EEM for reporting performance
  • Support with the effective implementation of the procedure and standard for buried cables mine wide.
  • Conduct investigations/audit into major and recurrently electrical faults.
  • Support thermography scan survey mine wide
  • Support in the writeups and implementation for standards, procedures, and policies
  • Conduct mine wide energy meter reading and prepare monthly power consumption report
  • Validate and sign off Power bills from ECG and VRA, Transmission service bill from GRIDCo and Bulk customer operating fees from Energy commission
  • Conduct regular power quality and energy audits
  • Support in the setup of Obuasi Energy Committee (OEC) and participate fully in energy cost and consumption review meetings.
  • Submission of weekly demand forecast to GRIDCo and any other relevant data as per the correspondence with the stakeholders in the energy sector

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Qualification / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering / Technology with minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience OR
  • Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering/ Technology with minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience OR
  • Electrical Technician Part III Certificate with five (5) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering operations

Legal Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license from either the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH) is preferred.
  • The Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC) is preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Experience in Electrical Audit and Energy Management Systems
  • Sound and working knowledge in Electrical Principles, Standards and Specifications.
  • Experience in the power/energy sector and power distribution systems.
  • Experience in overseeing engineering projects and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of SAP PM module

Other Competencies

  • Possess leadership, team management, problem-solving, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills through work experience and courses.
  • Competent professional capable of designing, developing, and implementing engineering solutions
