Your Impact

• To perform survey task within the required and acceptable standards, coordinate between Surveyors and the field team in the performance of task, and lead Survey Assistants as required.
• Assist the Surveyor to provide continuous survey support for exploration activities as well as other departments when necessary, guaranteeing high standards and working within an acceptable timeframe.

As Part Of Our Team, You Will

Exploration Surveys

• Operate different types of surveying instruments in the field for the purpose of defining accurate positions of plan and drilled holes, and other field computations.
• Carry out densification of survey beacons, replace destroyed ones within survey standards and perform regular checks on survey controls (test of survey beacon) across Newmont tenements.
• Carry out pre-marked and post-marked ground control surveys for aerial photography or drone surveys.
• Assist in monitoring Newmont tenement boundaries and report any illegal mining or exploration activities within tenement boundaries.
• Setout and survey planned drill holes within tolerance on surface.
• Prepare survey report on setting out and pickups.
• Prepare / update report on Downhole tool testing.
• Drive light vehicle to Exploration project sites to perform survey activities.

Underground Surveys

• Run Total Station traverse underground utilizing resection methods to setout planned holes and survey drilled holes within tolerance.

Downhole Surveys

• Conduct downhole surveys with downhole surveys tools (Magnetic and Non-magnetic) within acceptable accuracy.
• Undertake regular testing of survey instrument, downhole survey equipment (Magnetic tools, Gyros and Rig aligners) as quality assurance / quality control (QAQC) on test stand and analyze test results.

Software / Computer Application

• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. for job related reports and communication.
• Upload, download and operate data collector utilizing wireless transmission while maintaining conventional survey file naming in accepted format and directories.
• Download global positioning system (GPS) observational files using GPS (Trimble/Topcon/Sokkia) utility applications.

Communication

• Maintain good and inclusive communications with Project Managers and sections that are integral to the successful completion of survey duties and functions.

Health, Safety and Environment

• Comply with all Newmont Health, Safety and Sustainability requirements by taking part in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), performing field level risk assessment (FLRA) and attending Pre-start Meetings (PSM) regularly before or during survey job execution.
• Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
• Actively participate in all Newmont's safety and environmental systems and initiatives.
• Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental practices.
• Identify potential hazards and action that is appropriately taken.
• Maintain a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness.
• Raise, discuss and make resolution of safety issues at regular meetings.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

• Certificate / Diploma in Surveying or related field of study.

Experience

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience related to exploration or mining operations.

Skills And Abilities

• Intermediate knowledge of computing.
• Intermediate computing skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to manage and work with teams and work groups.
• Good writing and communication skills, team spirit, on-field decision making.
• Must have the ability to drive and possess a valid Ghanaian Driving License ‘C’.

Working Conditions

• Position is located in Ahafo South Mine site (both surface and underground) with regular travels to Ahafo North, and District Exploration projects across Ghana.
• Combination of surface and occasional underground mining conditions.
• Moist wet surfaces with sections of continuous waterfall.
• Potential for extreme dust particles and high heat / humidity.
• Noise exposure within the requirements for earplugs or / and earmuffs.
• Dark environment which requires personal attachment of lit head gear.
• Underground conditions include steep decline with section of uneven terrain.
• Working with corrosive chemicals.
