The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
Job Description
The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure. The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.
A Flooding Risk Engineer for the nuclear regulatory body is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating flooding risks to nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear facilities.
The job description includes:
- Assessment of meteorological data to identify flood risk factors from tsunamis, seiches, strong waves, hurricanes, windstorms, etc.
- Flooding Hazard Assessment: Identify potential flooding sources (e.g., tsunamis, hurricanes, river overflow) and assess associated risks. Conduct probabilistic risk assessments (PRAs) to evaluate flooding consequences.
- Flood protection design review including designs and evaluation of flood protection measures (e.g., seawalls, levees, watertight doors) to ensure that they meet the regulatory requirements of the Authority and other standards from agencies such as the IAEA.
- Review of emergency preparedness plans for flooding events and other meteorological hazards that could result in flooding risk, including inspection and verification of flood protection measures

Required Skills or Experience
Minimum Education
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrological Engineering, Hydrotechnical Engineering, or related field. Bachelors degree in any of the above with significant experience in flood risk assessment engineering could be considered.
Certifications & Knowledge
- Good understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, flood risk assessment, and proficiency in software like FLDWAV, SWMM, HEC-RAS would be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2 - 5-years of experience in environmental, hydrological / hydrotechnical engineering. Nuclear knowledge would be an advantage.
