Job Description

Position Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Esoko, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and maintenance of our robust and scalable backend systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to architect and implement innovative solutions that empower businesses in the fintech sector across Africa and other regions.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled engineer with a deep understanding of backend technologies, strong problem-solving abilities, and a passion for creating impactful software solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Participate in system architecture design and provide valuable insights to improve scalability, performance, and security.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code adhering to best practices and coding standards.
• Conduct thorough testing of software components, and identify and fix bugs or performance issues.
• Continuously optimize and enhance existing backend systems to ensure high performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with front-end engineers, data scientists, and product managers to deliver innovative features and functionalities.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, and apply them to improve the development process and system performance.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
• Contribute to code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain code quality.

Required Skills or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Proven experience as a Backend Engineer, focusing on designing and developing scalable systems.
• Strong proficiency in Node js and any other backend programming languages such as Python, Java, and Go lang.
• Extensive experience with Nest Js.
• Deep understanding of database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and proficiency in writing efficient SQL queries.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to quickly debug and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative
