CERATH Development Organization (CDO) is a non-profit entity catalyzing development in Africa. Operational in Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya, CDO has five main intervention areas. These are (1) Agriculture (II) Fisheries (III) Renewable Energy, (IV)Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) (V) Inclusive Finance.

Job Description

CDO, together with the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) and the Tree Crops Center (TCC), is implementing the Coconut Waste Project (COWAP) funded by the European Union (EU) under its “Promoting a Circular Economy and Local Development Programme”. The project seeks to achieve a green-circular economy and create livelihood opportunities through value addition to coconut husks in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality (LANMM).

A key objective of the project is to aggregate coconut waste within the project area and its environs to be processed into value-added products (cocopeat, coir fiber, and coconut shells) at its processing facility, the Coco-Waste Hub. In line with this endeavor, Coco-Waste Hub Limited is actively recruiting a proficient Mactory Operator to oversee and manage the operation of machinery at the factory.

Duties and Responsibilities

The hired candidates will be responsible for the following: 

  • Assist in the development of plans to reduce/minimize power outages for plant equipment.
  • Ensuring that all machines in the production process are in good working condition.
  • Periodic machine part assessment and assembling.
  • Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving machine operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Maintain and repair production equipment.
  • Ensure technical safety standards, compliance with company policies, and procedures are met at all times.
  • Ensure all workshop equipment/tools are in good working shape at all times.
  • Ensure that the Quality Management System (QMS) procedures for maintenance are fully implemented and communicate proposed changes to the Management Representative. This responsibility includes the documentation and approval of procedures and work instructions, as well as process forms and other forms as needed.

Required Skills or Experience

  •  A Bachelor of Science Degree or High National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification. 
  • Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical parts of industrial plants.
  • Good knowledge of storekeeping and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of risk standards, safety and hygiene compliance procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SAP, and POKA applications.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is an added advantage.
  • Applicants must be living within the municipality (LaNMM) in which the factory is located or in neighbouring municipalities. 

Work Location

  • Onsite at Coco-Waste Hub Limited, Danfa, La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality, Greater Accra Region.
