A vacancy exists at the Underground Department for the position of BLASTMAN

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

The successful candidate shall perform the following duties, among others:

• Handle and transport explosive materials in a safe manner according to standard
• Mark development and production faces and blast without close supervision
• Charge up holes, down-holes and development
• Charge up and fire stope blasts according to blast
• Ensure that all statutory requirements associated with the mining operation are adhered to in full compliance with the Mining Act and other related regulations of the Republic of
• Ensure working area is safe for personnel and equipment to perform
• Prepare reports and complete all documentation for charge-up and blasting at the end of
• Perform any other duty that will be assigned by the

Qualifications and Experience Required

Suitable candidates should have any of the under-listed qualifications, training and experience, or better:

Educational qualification and experience

• Minimum of basic educational qualifications (BECE/SSCE/NVTI or its equivalent) with at least 7 years’ underground
• Previously employed in an underground blasting
• A strong focus towards safety and hazard
• Must demonstrate strong work ethics and be able to communicate courteously with co-

Statutory Competencies

• Ghanaian Blasting Certificate of competency issued by the Mine
• Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the relevant Mineral and Mining Regulations
• Should have adequate knowledge and understanding of ventilation circuits, firing procedures (which include electric firing, re-entry procedures, drop raise firing, )
• Should have knowledge in the use of charge-up kettle and at least two underground mobile
• Must have a valid First Aid Certificate

Others

• Good knowledge in underground safety and ardent crusader of workplace safety
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licences (C Class) and can drive

Abilities and Skills:

• Exceptional skill in applying discretion, judgement and initiative within established guidelines, rules and procedures
• Should be conversant with industrial safety, health and environmental
• Should be self-motivated and be committed to meeting operational deadlines and
• Must be able to read, write and communicate meaningfully in English
• Must be a holder of a valid Ghanaian vehicle driving
