Purpose:

  • To develop, implement, continuously improve and execute Newmont’s procurement strategy, policies and guidelines in support of regional Capital Projects.
  • To develop procurement vision for Capital Projects in alignment with Corporate and Regional objectives and build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • To lead the team in adding value and driving cost savings in regional Capital Projects.

Essential Duties:

  • Execute Newmont’s purchasing strategy, policies and guidelines to drive shared goals and objectives across the entire Supply Chain in regard to minor and major capital project procurement.
  • Understand and support the Newmont Stage Gate process through turnover to Operations.
  • Develop Commercial strategies for Capital Projects;Participate in Project planning sessions;
  • Develop and maintain Equipment, Goods & Services (EGSI) documents for all applicable Newmont functions.
  • Develop Commercial Project Study Plans, Project Execution Plans and Stage Gate Reports.
  • Work closely with the Project team to develop the Business Readiness Plans
  • Coordinate Supply Chain, Inventory Control and Warehouse Project requirements.
  • Review and approve all major contractor procurement policies and procedures.
  • Assist in development of Scopes of Work for major contracts and procurements.
  • Tender, negotiate, execute and manage large EPCM contracts.

  • Perform contract management activities;
    • Administer major contracts and purchase orders
    • Oversee Materials and Equipment management activities to include warehousing, managing or overseeing equipment laydown areas, ordering, receiving, staging and issuing of materials.
    • Hold weekly procurement meetings with major contractors.
    • Oversee expediting support as needed for equipment and materials.
    • Ensure adherence to contract terms and conditions.
    • Manage incentive programs for major contractors.
    • Manage invoice reviews.
    • Claims management.
    • Logistics management in support of the project.
  • Manage cataloguing and turnover of all equipment as Project completion.
  • Develop Business Readiness Plans and Strategies.
  • Manage Project spares procurement
  • Workload is primarily focused on projects purchasing from start to finish. Including the upfront planning, understanding lead times and operational integration through the implementation and finalisation of the contract and supplier performance.
  • Provide support to Regional Project Managers, for the annual planning of resources to ensure an optimum supply of materials and services for projects according to LOM and construction programs.
  • People Management
    • Lead the team of contract administrators and Buyers in executing the strategy.
    • Drive cost savings in procurement.
    • Have direct people management responsibility for some Contract Administrators and Buyers.
    • Support and contribute to team dynamics through personally displaying leadership and team attributes.
    • Facilitate the supplier risk management for regional core commodities and drive procurement process maturity in the region.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, Engineering or related field.
  • Mining experience preferred.

 

Additional Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of SAP or equivalent enterprise level software packages is preferred.

 

Experience: 

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of directly related procurement experience or equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
  • Prior experience in procurement on Capital Projects desirable.
