Job overview:

To ensure the availability and reliability of heavy-duty equipment in the area of operation by completing planned and unplanned maintenance activities; Troubleshooting of malfunctions on excavators, bulldozers, wheel dozers, dump trucks, rollers, backhoes, forklifts, graders and wheel loaders by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, workshop manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications.

Core Duties:

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and diagnostic work on equipment by adhering to repair manuals, technical bulletins, operating and procedural manuals and safety handbooks.
  • Perform repairs and overhaul various components including engines, brakes, transmissions, differentials, axle assemblies, hydraulic controls, pumps, air compressors etc; Adjust equipment or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools; And clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning engines, systems and components of all heavy equipment using computerised and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required.
  • Complete the required administrative procedures and forms to ensure the proper recording and communication of work recommended and/or completed (maintenance inspection sheets, major repair authorization forms, time entries, third party inspections, etc).
  • Liaise with parts and logistics department for parts needed for maintenance and repair works.
  • Check and test repaired heavy duty equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets clients’ specification and provide mechanical maintenance information to clients by answering their questions and requests.
  • Repair faulty or malfunction heavy duty equipment as needed.
  • Assembly of new excavators, bulldozers, wheel dozers, dump trucks, rollers, backhoes, forklifts, graders and wheel loaders etc by directing crane operator to position components such as boom, stick, bucket and cylinder.
  • Service attachments and working tools such as hydraulic test gauges, harness checkers, engine test kits, multi-meters, thermometers and hand tools (hammer, spanner, iron brush, crowbar, filter belt, magnetic stick, grease gun or bucket etc.)
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance and repair reports by collecting, analysing and summarising information and trends and submit it to the Service Support Manager after scheduled preventive maintenance and repair works.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and establishing personal networks.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with the company and clients’ procedures, rules and regulations.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Motor Vehicle Mechanics and/or an HND (or similar/equivalent qualification) in Auto Mechanics.
  • Five years relevant work experience in the construction/mining industry.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of Komatsu equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • At ease with reports on maintenance, repairs, overhauling and equipment testing according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in maintenance and repair of diesel equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of all hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform complex diagnostic procedures on all equipment and determine the appropriate maintenance and repairs accordingly.
  • Proficient at reporting on technical jobs.
  • A full, valid Ghanaian Driver’s License.
