Job Description

Marie Stopes International Ghana (MSIG), established in 2006, is an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices and one of the largest specialized Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) organizations in Ghana. MSIG complements the Ministry of Health in delivering high-quality, affordable general health and SRH services across the country.

MSIG is seeking skilled, compassionate, and client-focused individuals to join our clinical team as Locum Centre Midwives in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi. This role is essential to our mission of improving access to Family Planning (FP) and SRH services, especially for underserved communities.

About the Role

As a Locum Centre Midwife, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, client-centered sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, maternal care, safe abortion and post-abortion care (where permitted), and other core and non-core services. You will work under the guidance of the Centre Manager to ensure clinical excellence, client satisfaction, and compliance with MSIG and Ghana Health Service protocols.

You will also support accurate documentation, infection prevention, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for clients. This role requires a skilled and empathetic midwife with strong clinical expertise and a commitment to respectful and confidential care.

What You’ll Do

As a Locum Centre Midwife, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, client-centered sexual and reproductive health services at MSIG Centres. You will provide direct clinical care including family planning, maternal health, safe abortion and post-abortion care (where permitted), and other SRH services.

Working closely with the Centre Manager and clinical team, you will ensure that every client receives safe, respectful, and confidential care in line with MSIG and Ghana Health Service protocols. Your contribution will help maintain clinical excellence, promote client satisfaction, and support the smooth operation of the centre during peak periods or staff absences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive SRH services including FP, maternal health, and post-abortion care.
  • Uphold infection prevention, clinical quality, and client confidentiality standards.
  • Offer counseling, informed consent, and respectful care to all clients.
  • Accurately complete client records in the EHR system and maintain service statistics.
  • Address client complaints promptly and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Participate in demand generation and health promotion activities.
  • Support mentoring of junior staff and locums.
  • Ensure rational use of clinical supplies and report stock issues to the Centre Manager.
  • Comply with MSI’s safeguarding, financial, and data protection policies.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognized clinical qualification in Midwifery.
  • Registered with a professional body in Ghana and in good standing.
  • Minimum 3 years post-graduation experience in SRH service delivery.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching clinical staff.
  • Strong commercial mindset and ability to grow clinic performance. Skills & Attributes:

  • Proficiency in health information systems and digital tools.
  • Commitment to client privacy, ethical practice, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Must be pro-choice and aligned with MSIG’s mission and values. Skills & Attributes:
