Mine Engineer III

Main Responsibility Areas will include;

  1. Information Management and Management Reporting
  2. Operations Management
  3. Strategic Planning
  4. Supervision of Functions

In This Role You Will:

  • Provide the work for reserve reporting process for the open pit mines in the region as assigned.
  • Provide Open Pit designs and schedules that align with stage gate requirements along with the required documentation. 
  • Participate in the Strategic planning process for the region, focusing on the open pit mines and providing input as requested.
  • Support with the detailed business plan build up.
  • Maintain tools required for strategic planning.

  • Support with the development of new tools as required.
  • Prepare, review and evaluate mine design, mine plans, ore control, project feasibility and productivity studies.
  • Supervise or provide a combination of any or all the following functions:

Process Maintenance Planner

About This Role:

Are you passionate about your team and their safety, maximizing scheduled maintenance and reducing the amount of unplanned works?

We have a great opportunity for a Process Maintenance Planner who will perform maintenance planning and scheduling for the process plant to ensure availability of resources, reduce unplanned equipment maintenance and prevent equipment breakdowns.

In This Role You Will:

  • Establish and maintain short-term maintenance schedule (i.e. three to six months ahead).
  • Conduct regular schedule and maintenance plan reviews with key stakeholders biannually to enable proper scoping of jobs.
  • Conduct reviews of maintenance plans and costing, and make adjustments, where required.
  • Conduct coding of work orders to suit the requirements of the AMT budgeting tool.
  • Create reservations and requisitions for parts, materials, services and special tools and equipment.
  • Ensure all maintenance works are completed in a safe manner and in compliance with established safe work procedures and systems.
  • Run and distribute respective reports to relevant stakeholders for each scheduling period
  • Pull relevant information required from the SAP system to inform the approach for Work Order Completion.
  • Update Component and / or equipment tracking in CMMS.
  • Review closing comments and improvement suggestions on completed work orders and action appropriately to improve future planning.
  • Oversee that all MOS Element documentation is current and approved changes communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Determine shutdown critical path activities, update shutdown schedule as required.
 

Your Skills, Knowledge & Experience Checklist:

  • Higher National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience in planning and maintenance systems in a large gold operation or similar heavy industrial plant, of which 2 – 3 years should be leading maintenance teams.
  • Knowledge and experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Sound knowledge of the operation of the CMMS (Ellipse/SAP).
  • General knowledge of performance measures and their interpretation.

Condition Monitoring Technician

In This Role You Will:

  • Conduct routine condition monitoring tasks on all rotating equipment and other tools, according to the established schedules and as per plant requirements.
  • Conduct extensive analyses on vibration and other data collected to diagnose / troubleshoot rotating machinery problems and recommend remedial measures.
  • Perform specialised non-destructive testing (NDT’s) toward the goal of maintaining equipment availability.
  • Conduct stress testing on various piping elements within the mine.
  • Conduct oil sampling activities on process plant equipment, as and when required.
  • Comply with Newmont mine, health and safety regulations and Reliability Technician policies and procedures.
  • Accept personal responsibility for own health and safety.

  • Diploma or equivalent technical qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical or Instrumentation preferred).
  • Specialized training in vibration analysis and other Condition Monitoring techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of the condition / health of critical assets.
  • Minimum of 4 – 6 years’ experience in Condition Monitoring within the mining industry.
  • Working experience of PC-based On-Line and Off-Line Condition Monitoring Systems (Hardware and Software).
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound computer literacy skills (SAP, MS Word, Outlook and other Windows applications).
  • Ability to predict the onset of equipment failure that could lead to the loss of asset functionality.

  • Submit required applications to and engage appropriate government agencies on all land access issues to ensure compliance with all applicable Newmont standards, and National legal requirements.
  • Meet required schedules for compensation payments, within the budgeted resources, and ensure that the final survey, valuation and contract payments are undertaken timely, efficiently, accurately and with minimal conflict.

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with local communities and key partners associated with NGGL Land Access to ensure maximum participation and cooperation from the impacted communities.
  • Lead the land Access team and contractor’s contribution to the Zero Harm goal of Ahafo North with focus on projects Risk assessments Control Systems, quality Safety Interactions, Inspections, Audits, & Impact Mitigation.
  • Contribute to cost estimation methodology and budgeting related to Land Access.

Your Skills, Training & Experience Checklist

  • First Degree in Geography, Land Economy, Natural Resource Development or a related discipline.
  • A working understanding of the Minerals and Mining Laws and laws affecting land in Ghana to be able to inform farmers and land owners of their responsibilities and rights related to a declared mining and moratorium areas.
  • A clear understanding of Newmont’s Land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement standards (NEM-SER-STA-018) as well as Guide to Land Access and Compensation (GLAC) for project activities.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience working in Extractive Industries with at least 5 years’ in a Managerial capacity.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills (interacting with diverse functional and cultural backgrounds).

In This Role You Will

  • Lead a core regional pool of Subject Matter Experts in the areas of data acquisition, data management, geological modeling, geophysics, geochemistry, prospectity assessment and QA/QC. Constantly evaluate and optimize team’s performance, capacity and technical capability.
  • Evaluate and prioritize work requests and partner with exploration teams to identify and allocate internal and external resources to staff teams able to complete projects in a timely fashion. Lead external consultants as necessary.
  • Undertake technical reviews to ensure the quality of geological models developed by resource geologists across the region.
  • Provide technical support to exploration teams in identifying, prioritizing and testing targets.
  • Ensure standards for data acquisition, logging, sampling, assaying and geological modeling are followed and that these activities are carried out with sound application of geology fundamentals and proper use of available technologies.
  • Provide mentoring to technical staff across exploration regional teams, support cross functional development, and improve collaboration of geologists across sites.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

  • Degree in Geology or related fields with 15+ years of broad industry experience in mining and exploration environments.
  • Minimum of ten years experience in resource/reserve reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading technical staff and understanding and communicating management expectations.
  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER.
  • Strong understanding of Resource and Reserves disclosure standards.
  • Experience in working with and supporting exploration activities in a variety of cultural environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cost-benefit analysis, project management methodologies, and change management, including engagement and communications.
  • Driving towards conflict resolution and having the authority to make decisions that impact delivering of solutions.
  • Cross functional Business and Technical Acumen across the mining business cycle – understanding financial implication of technical drivers.
