Teach For All seeks a Social Media & Communications Specialist who will support the Public Affairs team in amplifying the work of the global network through social media and other communications channels. This role is critical to achieving Teach For All’s 10 Year Intended Outcomes, most significantly around fostering an interconnected global network and developing and amplifying our voice as influential in the global discussion. As a member of the Content & Marketing mini-team within Public Affairs, this individual will support and lead a variety of projects to ensure we are communicating our stories, impact and brand in the most effective way possible to external audiences as well as our internal constituencies. 

  • Is “fluent” in the ways brands, particularly non-profits, are using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media channels to connect to multiple audiences and amplify their messages
  • Is a gifted writer with diverse editorial experience
  • Has a strong understanding of the global education environment and cross-cutting issues, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, and the stakeholders in this space
  • Is a creative thinker who keeps up with current trends in social media and marketing communications and proactively proposes ideas for increasing awareness of and engagement with Teach For All among multiple audiences, and can serve as our go-to resource and internal expert on these topics
  • Is collaborative and enjoys working with colleagues on multiple initiatives, often concurrently
  • Is able to exercise judgment and build context quickly in nuanced and complex situations
  • Is passionate about education, equity, and social justice for all

Outcomes

The Social Media & Communications Specialist will play a critical role in amplifying the work of the Teach For All network by 

  • Serving as Teach For All’s voice and creating our daily social media content on all social media channels (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) 
  • Collaborating with the Head of Content & Marketing and other Public Affairs team members on our broader social media, marketing, and communications strategy
  • Supporting network partners’ social media efforts when needed
  • Contributing to the content & editorial of other Public Affairs communications

 

Responsibilities 

Manage Teach For All’s Social Media Engagement Efforts (70%): 

  • In partnership with the Head of Content & Marketing and other Public Affairs team members, develop a proactive digital narrative and online brand that compellingly communicates Teach For All’s core purpose, long-term vision, theory of change, core values, and belief in the power of sharing solutions across borders, and highlights the impact of network partners, the global organization, and the network as a whole.
  • On Twitter, Facebook & Instagram, create and share daily content that advocates for the right of all children to the education, support, and opportunity they need to thrive and highlight the work of our organization and network partners as agents of change in this effort
  • Collaborate to develop and implement a strategy for amplifying Teach For All’s work and connecting members of the network on LinkedIn
  • Build relationships with followers and foster online community by managing daily interactions with stakeholders, answering questions, engaging with other global leaders, and responding to requests for information
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to ensure Teach For All is leveraging social media to amplify its work and connect our global community
  • Partner with Public Affairs teammates to develop a social media strategy for the CEO
  • Manage the CEO’s Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • Work with the Executive Team to keep updated on the CEO’s travels, speaking engagements, and other events
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs teammates to ensure we’re leveraging the CEO’s accounts to elevate the efforts of the network and global organization 
  • Influence the online global discussion on education in order to create an external environment conducive to the achievement of our vision.
  • Identify and engage with like-minded influencers and NGOs on social media to build community and support of our work and proactively update team on global education conversations happening online 
  • Engage, connect and communicate with our global network,  build investment in our shared vision and leverage our global platform and knowledge to elevate Teach For All partner organizations’ brands
  • Advise internal teams on leveraging social media to increase their impact externally as well as foster connectivity internally

 

Support other Public Affairs Communications Channels (30%):

  • Monitor daily media reports for mentions of/stories about Teach For All, individual network partners, the CEO, and other relevant education news, and share findings with Strategic Communications mini-team
  • Curate and share content and communications updates for network communications leads via the weekly Hotsheet
  • Develop communications plans for key network events, initiatives, and milestones, and relevant external events or initiatives that Teach For All or network partners are involved in
  • Contribute to other Public Affairs projects (including editorial and marketing materials) through storytelling, awareness raising, and increasing brand awareness as needed

 Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience contributing to or leading a social media strategy
  • Previous non-profit experience preferred, but not required
  • Previous writing experience required
  • Knowledge of multiple languages is a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with Drupal and/or other content management systems is a plus, but not required

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Outstanding written English and interpersonal communication skills, as well as research and analytical skills
  • Ability to juggle several competing priorities at once with a spirit of flexibility and positive outlook
  • Outstanding judgement around communicating with external audiences on social media and in other Public Affairs initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, while maintaining a very high bar for quality
  •  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  •  Ability to build relationships and communicate in a way that is sensitive to diversity in backgrounds and beliefs (e.g., geographical, racial, cultural, socioeconomic, political, etc.)
  • Capacity to work with different time zones and locations
  • Exemplifies Teach For All’s core values

 

Work Authorization

Candidates for this position must possess local work authorization in order to be considered.

 

Travel and Hours

Less than 5% travel is expected (mostly to staff conferences and occasional events). Given the fast-paced nature of the role some weekend and evening work will be required.

 

Compensation

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
