Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD) is a non-profit organization that advocates for the rights of individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.  GNAD works through right-based advocacy on cross-cutting issues aimed at facilitating access to public goods and services for the deaf communities.

Main responsibilities

The Project coordinator will:

  • Design and initiate the implementation of GNAD-DDL project activities in accordance with project logic and timelines
  • Develop and implement strategies and mechanisms that facilitates inclusion of deaf people
  • Prepare regular narrative and financial project reports to the Executive Director
  • Be responsible for the implementation of all training and capacity building activities
  • Coordinate all organization’s advocacy towards the recognition of Ghanaian Sign Language
  • Provide direct supervision to Regional Coordinators in 16 regions
  • Co-ordinate and carry out preparations visits to partners
  • Assist the regional coordinators in organising regional and district level trainings and capacity building activities, both remotely and on-spot
  • Provide technical assistance and advocacy towards mainstreaming of the rights of individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing
  • Other tasks required by the GNAD Executive Director

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in human rights, Social Sciences, international development or a subject directly relevant to the position
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in NGO and similar position

Position Specifications

  • Good knowledge of human rights mechanisms, Ghanaian legal frameworks, and knowledge about disability/deaf issues
  • Good working knowledge of Ghana’s Persons with Disability Act, the  United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ability to manage multiple tasks, multi-stakeholder communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively including remotely under pressure with very little supervision
  • Willingness to work occasionally at non-standard hours and to undertake regular travel
  • Strong understanding and proven experience of budgeting principles and financial management
  • Good analytical and reporting writing skills
  • Knowledge of Ghanaian Sign Language is an asset

Main responsibilities

The Sign Language Officer will under the supervision of the director:

  • Coordinate the sign language component of the Project
  • Work directly and in partnership with the University of Cape Coast Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting team
  • Develop quarterly, bi-annual and annual work plan for Sign Language advocacy
  • Conduct and coordinate training of regional sign language tutors
  • Work in partnership with the University of Cape Coast for the screening of applicants for the diploma in SL interpreting
  • Serve as liaison officer and coordinate all national level sign language programmes
  • Coordinate the Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting programme at UCC
  • Prepare regular narrative and financial project reports to the Executive Director
  • Be responsible for the implementation of all training and capacity building activities
  • Be responsible for the development of visual teaching and learning materials and assessment of Ghanaian Sign Language Interpreters
  • Lead in the development of standardized Ghanaian Sign Language Curriculum

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of a first degree in social sciences, education, linguistic, or human rights
  • At least 5 years’ work experiences in education or related field
  • Excellent command of the Ghanaian Sign Language
  • Working knowledge of NGO environment

Position Specifications

  • Working knowledge of the Ghanaian Sign Language as instructor or tutor
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively including remotely under pressure with very little supervision
  • Ability to innovate independently and within the project logic in order to achieve results
  • Willingness to work occasionally at non-standard hours and to undertake regular travel
  • Strong analytical, sense of responsibility and ability to manage multiple tasks, multi-stakeholder communication, excellent inter-personal skills and ability to meet deadlines

Main responsibilities

  • Facilitating communication between deaf and hearing persons at the head office
  • Interpreting either in a group setting or one-on-one
  • Working in partnership with the Sign Language Officer and Project Coordinator to provide information on Ghanaian Sign Language
  • Working in partnership with the Project Coordinator and Sign Language officer to conduct sign language assessment

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of diploma in Ghanaian Sign Language Interpreting and or recognized discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience in working as a sign language interpreter with deaf people in various settings
  • Candidates without the above but with proven practical skills will be considered

Other skills

  • The ideal person must have analytical mind and detailed understanding of work of Sign Language Interpreter
  • Applicant must have an excellent command of English language together with Ghanaian Sign Language at a speed suitable for live interactive
  • Demonstrate high working ethics
  • Willingness to work occasionally at non-standard hours and to undertake regular travel
  • Applicant must demonstrate an average of 95% accuracy in sign to spoken languages
  • Must be conversant with the deaf community and knowledge of the diversity
  • Evidence of successful interpretation at conferences, job interviews, visas at embassies etc. will be advantage

  • Responsible for overall management of organisations accounts/financial operation
  • Preparation of payroll
  • Perform day-day-accounting entries, recording, verifying, analysing and reviewing
  • Documentation of financial transactions
  • Preparation and filling of taxes and statutory deductions
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Preparation of organization budget in collaboration with management

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of first degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in financial accounting from recognized institution
  • Must have Professional qualification either ACCA/CIM
  • Strong understanding and proven experience of budgeting principles and financial management and ability to analysis budgets
  • Must have at least 7 years’ experience as an accountant 5 of which must be in lead position
  • Knowledge of current accounting software like SAGE or Quickbooks will be an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
