Purpose

To provide geotechnical expertise regarding mine design, schedule and ground support for all planning horizons with the objective of safe stable mining operations. 

 

Essential Duties

Geotechnical Engineering

  • Evaluate and propose optimum geotechnical engineering solutions for problematic situations which threaten the achievement of planned objectives.
  • Assess geotechnical risks and develop mitigation plans.

Document Preparation

  • Prepare monthly geotechnical reports which includes quality of installation and performance of ground support along with technical review of all mine planning horizons.
  • Contribute to statutory reporting activities related to ground support.

Strategic Planning

Contribute towards budget preparation activities for the geotechnical team which include ground management review of proposed business plan

Safety Health and Environment

  • Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
  • Actively participate in all Newmont Ghana safety and environmental systems and initiatives.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelors’ degree in Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering

Additional Knowledge:

  • Preferred knowledge of Mine design software, Dips, Unwedge, Phase2, Map3D programmes

Experience:

  • Previous undergraduate experience in hardrock underground metalliferous mining environment 

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

  • Potential for hazardous conditions exists in underground mines and the incumbent must be familiar with them.

Purpose

To coordinate Process Operations and Maintenance (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Condition Monitoring) training programs and activities at the Ahafo/Akyem mine site.

Essential Duties

Health and Safety Management

  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision.

Post Training Evaluation and Maintenance

  • Confirm that all training and assessment procedures are followed and all competencies; standards and/or regulations met before signing for the issue of certificate and permit.

Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision to trainers and attend to any query escalations.
  • Supervise training conducted through allocated staff

Training Execution

  • Coordinate and provide cost effective competency-based training and assessment programs delivered to Newmont and contractor employees to develop required skills and values.

Training Planning and Analysis

Contribute to the provision of an appropriately trained and skillful workforce for the Process Plant

Training Module Development

  • Research, plan, and develop training modules to meet training needs, as per the competencies required; schedule and socialise training sessions.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering

Additional Knowledge:

  • Senior Process Officer Certification / Sectional Engineer Certification (MINCOM).
  • Workplace Trainer and Assessor IV.
  • Working knowledge of HR policies and procedures. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 – 6 years’ generalised experience in Process Operations / Maintenance, with previous facilitation experience, of which 2 – 3 years should be in a supervisory and / or coordinating capacity.
  • Previous training experience in the mining industry is essential.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain production goals and objectives as a team member.
  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance.
  • Ensure all tasks or activities are executed and aligned with Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Work Instructions at all times.
  • Report all accidents, unsafe positions, defected equipment, and safety complains to immediate supervisor or to HSE representative.
  • Read and interpret drilling plans to ensure cost-effectiveness of all drilling operations.
  • Ensure proper rig-up and rig-down procedures.
  • Provide reliable and accurate operational knowledge and practical application to minimize down time and loss of production.
  • Plan and mobilize equipment to drilling site (Tramming).
  • Work collaboratively with Mining Engineers and the Survey team to ensure drilling is undertaken to plan.
  • Provide ongoing coordination of services and communicate with supervisors and fellow crew members.

Education and Experience

  • Must possess at least MSLC/SHS Certificate or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have at least three (3) years’ working experience in an underground mining.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, parts books and service manuals (including specifications) for Company Equipment.
  • Must have basic electrical and mechanical knowledge on the ITH Cubex Machine.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak good English.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License/Operating Permits.

  • Actively promote Safety and Hazard awareness.

  • Advise line management and employees on best practices to managing conflict, employee discipline, grievances and performance improvement management
  • Represent and articulate the Company’s views before the Labour Commission and other ADR appearance.
  • Identify and anticipate areas of potential conflicts and support the development of strategies to allay these conflicts and labour actions.
  • Develop and train subordinates to ensure efficient performance of duties

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology or Social Sciences.
  • Professional certification or membership; (CIPD, SHRM, SPHR, HRMP).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Employee/industrial Relations or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position within the mining industry
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of good industrial relations, Labour Act, Labour Regulations, Workman Compensation and Holiday Act.
  • Good investigative, analytical, problem-solving and information- gathering skills
  • Sound negotiating, mediation, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Applications.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License with good defensive driving skills.
  • A proven successful track record of leading teams and managing people.
  • High degree of flexibility, diplomacy, respect for confidentiality and strong work ethic

Essential Duties

  • Provide advanced geologic technical review, guidance and support to programs designed to discover, develop, evaluate or mine gold and base metal deposits.
  • Undertake technical reviews to ensure the integrity of data acquired through drill testing, geophysical, geochemical and geological mapping programs. Ensure that these activities are carried out with sound application of geology fundamentals and proper use of available technologies.
  • Build and periodically update geological and resource models in collaboration with the Resource Modelling group.
  • Ensure the Function is employing the highest level of technology and its application through skilled coordination of the services offered by the Function’s SME’s.
  • Assist the Exploration Business Development and M&A groups in identifying prospective greenfield settings and providing technical justification for investment.
  • Assist in mentoring, developing and retaining geoscientists focusing on career development, talent management and succession planning.
Training & Experience

Formal Qualification, Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree in Geology or related fields with 15+ years of broad industry experience in mining and exploration environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical staff and understanding and communicating management expectations.
  • Strong knowledge of the resource development process from grassroots exploration to reserve definition and production.
  • Broad and multi-disciplinary experience in a variety of geological environments with particular exposure to gold and base metals.
  • Knowledge of cutting edge new geological concepts, ideas, and mineralization models.


Skills and Abilities

  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER.
  • Strong understanding of Resource and Reserves disclosure standards.
  • Experience in working with and supporting exploration activities in a variety of cultural environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cost-benefit analysis, project management methodologies, and change management, including stakeholder engagement and communications.
  • Ability to create, synthesize, and manipulate large geologic datasets from proprietary, third party and governenment sources and identify highest probability subsets for new resource location therein.
  • Able to communicate highly technical concepts to non-technical management. Must be able to produce clear written documents and accurate geologic presentations.
  • Cross functional Business and Technical Acumen across the mining business cycle – understanding financial implication of technical drivers.
  • Abilities to engage effectively with stakeholders on both delivering answers and ongoing engagement.
  • Flexibility to adapt to requirements from the business and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas (own and others) in a group setting,and foster constructive dialogue within the team.
