Our Client has been a reputable operator within the Maritime, Transportation and related sectors for many years. It currently seeks an experienced professional with the expertise, track record, exposure and commitment to competently steer the affairs of the organization into the future, as its Managing Director. The role will plan, develop, and implement practical and creative strategies that align with current and future industry prospects, for the growth, sustainability and profitability of the organization.

ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors the successful candidate will, among other tasks, be required to:

  • Formulate and successfully implement business policies and strategies to ensure achievement of the mission and objectives of the organization.
  • Plan, establish, and maintain effective operational systems, processes and procedures that facilitate the internal workings of the organization.
  • Establish budgetary and financial systems to ensure that the organization operates on sound financial and commercial lines, and remains profitable.
  • Lead and support the management team and other staff in ways that ensure optimal employee and organizational performance.
  • Develop and expand the organization’s client base locally, regionally and internationally, by maximising and promoting its core strengths in light of industry developments and trends.
  • Forge value-adding partnerships with industry players and associates.
  • Establish the appropriate safeguards and internal controls that forestall business risks.
  • Provide periodic reports and undertake other responsibilities under the direction of the Board.

Required Skills or Experience

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A strong Business Degree, preferably at Masters or equivalent level. A 2nd degree or professional qualification relevant to the Maritime and Transport and/or Logistics Industry would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant post-qualification experience, at least five (5) of which should have been in a senior management position within the above industries.
  • The candidate will have the critical and strategic thinking abilities, business acumen and sufficient hands-on knowledge of the Maritime and Transport and/or Logistics Industry necessary to ensure the appropriate level of industry risk management, commercial & business performance.
  • Ability to develop a working plan with the Management Team and the Board, and execute and deliver on commitments within set deadlines.
  • Demonstrated productivity and people management skills, team building competencies and ability to motivate staff at all levels to achieve desired results.
  • Leadership skills necessary to set and implement the company’s vision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
