We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and results-oriented journalist, a team player with excellent editorial and leadership skills to fill the following position:

EDITOR, DAILY GRAPHIC

Role

Produce the Daily Graphic newspaper and its website in furtherance of the GCGL's corporate goals and objectives within the framework of the company strategy, budget, policies and code of ethics.

Responsibilities

The Editor is to:

  • Take editorial decisions for the paper and its website in terms of its news content to ensure increase in sales.
  • Manage the evolution of the paper and its transition into a digitally focused newsroom while maintaining its print credentials.
  • Ensure that the character of the paper and its website are in conformity with the agreed purpose of the paper and house style of the company.
  • Ensure that all pages of the paper and its website are read, edited and proofread, devoid of any grammatical and typesetting errors and thereby uphold the high image of the paper.
  • Ensure that staff members are appropriately assigned to undeftake editorial duties and gather news stories to enable the publication of the paper and its website.
  • Ensure the training and development, professionalism and motivation of the staff of the Daily Graphic.
  • Write editorials and blogs to reflect the opinion of the paper.
  • Source and coordinate the activities and contributions from extemal contributors to the newspaper for the purpose of sustaining the columns and features that give a unique character to the paper,
  • Set and monitor pelformance targets for the staff.
  • Prepare monthly repotts, mid-year reviews and annual budget.
  • Develop ideas for events to boost the image of the paper and the company, and implement accordingly.
  • Champion content marketing efforts to provide revenue for the company
  • Operate a social media handle to be able to seek feedback from readers/audience

  • Strong digital journalism and social media skills.

Essential Qualifications/Expetience

First Degree with a minimum of 10 years of working experience, five (5) of which must have been in a News management position.
