A reputable non-bank financial Institution is seeking to recruit an Underwriting Officer to provide technical underwriting support and perform duties and responsibilities that will minimise technical losses as well as contribute towards the achievement Of the Companys objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to all facultative offers, assess offers and seek for approval by authorised persons, in line with approved guidelines.
  • Analyse business exposure and seek appropriate retro cover where necessary.
  • Issue cover notes/endorsements to ceding companies

  • Regularly update the risk register in respect Of treaty and facultative business accepted from cedants weekly
  • Send out reminders on outstanding closings to cedants weekly.
  • Follow up on upcoming renewals and send out renewal notices and/or reminders to cedants.
  • Ensure that confirmed facultative offers and treaty businesses from cedants are captured into the technical software.
  • Review claim documentation received to determine the Company's liability and process for payment in line withapproved guidelines; also capture
    approved claims into the technical software.
  • Send regular reminders to cedants for payment of outstanding premiums.
  • Prepare treaty returns confirmation sheets for submission with accompanying returns for purposes of booking by Finance unit.
  • Provide Information for monthly production reports in the form required, for Management use,

Competencies:

  • Ability to cope with work and time pressure
  • Ability to pay attention to and analyse detail without getting bogged down
  • Good report writing skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to organise and execute work to meet tight deadlines

Qualification and experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
  • Must be fluent in French, both written and oral.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in the insurance industry.
