Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• 8 years’ work experience desired.
• 5 years in offshore oil and gas OR relevant industry experience essential.
• High school / technical college diploma desired
• C&G/ONC/HNC and equivalent computer Engineering / or “Controls systems Engineering” trade background.
• NVQ Certificate III Diploma INSTRUMENT PROCESS ENGINEERING 
• SVQ3 – Maintaining Plant & Systems – Instrument / Controls systems
• Good knowledge of all instrument systems including metering, telecoms, emergency shutdown, fire & gas detection 
• Experienced in DCS and PLC systems and troubleshooting knowledge of UPS, Instrument control, power management and protection systems,
• Have good knowledge of, Automated Control, Fire and Gas, Telecoms, Fiscal metering & ESD systems.
• Some experience in a supervisory / leadership role desired. 
• Strong computer skills - Microsoft Applications
• CMMS - Maintenance Management systems experience desired.
• Exposure to refining and oil and gas production facilities desired.
• CompEx Fundamental Certified highly desired. 
• Previous experience working offshore desired
• Strong stakeholder appreciation essential. 
• Experience of working in remote locations desired.
• Good attitude to work.

Job Overview:

A global supplier and operator of offshore floating platforms seek a Control System Technician to work on their offshore Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel on a rotational basis in West Africa. You will Operate and carry out first line maintenance activities for “Instrument & Controls systems” on the FPSO process and utilities plant in a safe and compliant manner. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 5 years oil and gas experience combined with C&G/ONC/HNC and equivalent computer Engineering / or “Controls systems Engineering” trade background. The Company has been in operation for many decades and are well established as a leading provider of floating solutions for the offshore oil and gas industry. They offer a range of vessels such as FPSO’s, FSO’S and FLNG and much more. They have an enviable reputation for EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation) services as well as charter and operations projects. They operate globally and have offices in many countries. 

Responsibilities:

This role encompasses many functions including:

• Operate and carry out first line maintenance activities for “Instrument & Controls systems” as directed by relevant Discipline Supervisor on the FPSO process and utilities plant in a safe and efficient manner. 
• Always, being aware of safety of others, effective utilisation of FPSO systems and processes related to FPSO operations, ensuring compliance with company and statutory requirements and in line with the Company’s Performance standards / associated assurance tasks.
• Provide and carry out first line maintenance activities for Topsides and Engine room / Utilities “Instrument & Controls systems” as directed by relevant Discipline Supervisor on the FPSO
• Responsible for weekly monitoring checks on safety and production critical “Instrument & Controls systems” equipment, reporting any deviation of set parameters and raise work orders in maintenance management system
• Carry out fault finding and diagnostic checks on all vessel equipment, ensuring any repairs are addressed promptly. Ensure critical spares are available and any discrepancies are addressed
• Complete and maintain all documentation associated with “Instrument & Controls systems” Maintenance engineering as required for all maintenance operational work activities
• Carry out Management of change / software change, Preventative maintenance and repair work, shutdowns, isolations and planned maintenance in accordance with the CMMS ensuring.
• Ensure all maintenance and maintenance related activities are carried out to the highest standards;
• Ensure all test and inspection routines required by the Planned Maintenance System are completed;
• Ensure that proper records / history and reports are maintained.
• Review and update Job descriptions for planned maintenance as required
• Be familiar with and lead by example with the Facility’s “Instrument & Controls systems” plant and the safe operation and maintenance and will ensure knowledge of safety requirements including work permit systems, operational and emergency procedures, company policy and instructions.
• Effective reporting of the status of all “Instrument & Control” equipment/systems (including interconnecting systems) primarily to the offshore Maintenance function, with a second reporting line to the onshore asset Instrument Engineer.
• Provide Engineering Maintenance support for “Instrument & Controls systems” to achieve and maintain the technical and performance integrity of the FPSO Facility.
• Complete all work activities in accordance with the Facility standards, Facility Management procedures and specifications


This is a permanent role offering a competitive salary. In addition: 

• Offshore / Hardship allowances may be considered. 
• Transportation as necessary and required. 
• Alternatively, a transportation allowance may be provided. 
• 15 days paid leave and public holidays.

? The Company will provide accommodations 
? Foreign Service Premium may be considered.
? You will be entitled to 1 trip for every 3 months service. This will include an economy flight plus 7 calendar day home leave (including weekend and public holiday but excluding travel day) to visit your home country or to travel outside of designated country. 
? Once a year, someone can accompany you - economy flight paid.
? A small relocation allowance may be offered. 
? The Company will organise all aspects of mobilisation/ demobilisation 
? The Company will organise work permits.

This is an offshore rotational position and as such:

• You will work 28 days on and 28 days off.
• You will be a permanent employee working effectively for half the year 
• You will be paid monthly and the salary will reflect the work schedule
