A Public Service institution is seeking a versatile, proactive and results-oriented person for the position below at its Head Office: Applications Development Manager (Software Developer)
JOB PURPOSE
To develop and maintain web based applications as well as the institution’s website.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the development, testing and documentation of business application software based on Agile methodology.
- Timely implementation and effective maintenance of systems
- Provide inputs for the formulation and implementation of MIS strategy and policies.
- Design, develop and administer Microsoft SQL & MySQL Database Management Systems.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plan.
- Prepare and maintain application software manuals with regards to the System Development Life Cycle.
- Design reports using appropriate reporting tool.
- Analyze and amend software errors in a timely & accurate fashion & provide status reports.
- Maintain the organization’s website.
- Perform application & database back-up and recovery.
- Provide status reports on project progress and outstanding issues.
- Analyze and amend software errors in a timely & accurate fashion & provide status reports.
- Administer Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN), ensuring proper installation of computer systems.
- Carry out training of personnel on ICT systems.
Required Skills or Experience
- A Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Communication Technology from an accredited tertiary institution.
- A minimum of two (2) years relevant post-qualification work experience in a reputable organization.
COMPETENCIES
- Excellent programming knowledge in Microsoft .NET, ASP.NET, MVC, C#, ADO.NET, Entity Framework, LINQ, WordPress, PHP, IoC Frameworks
- Knowledge in Object Oriented Design and Programming
- Proficiency in Web User Interface Design, Cross-Browser compatibility, Responsive UI using Ext JS Framework, HTML 5, CSS 3, jQuery & JavaScript
- Expertise in Relational Database Management Systems Design and Administration such as Microsoft SQL and MySQL
- Knowledge in Unit Testing, Stress Testing, Integration Testing, Functional Testing and .Net Mocking Frameworks
- Knowledge in reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services & Microsoft Visual Studio Report Designer
- Knowledge in Microsoft Visual Studio, Version Control (preferably Tortoise SVN)
- Knowledge in Web Design using Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw is a plus
- Ability to write effective reports
- Ability to prepare software manuals
- Ability to work under pressure and strict timelines
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to keep to time and other commitments
- Ability to build commitment to the job and the organization
- Knowledge of control systems
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze issues and recommend solutions
