Miro Forestry (“Miro”) is a sustainable plantation forestry business with operations in Ghana and SierraLeone, establishing commercial forests for the production of wood products.

Miro is one of West Africa’s leading plantation forestry businesses, employing over 1,500 people, operating high quality plantations while preserving ecological environments and supporting local employment andcommunity development.

Internship Overview

MIRO accepts applications from students pursuing M.Sc / B.Sc in any branch of Life sciences to undertake research training towards partial fulfilment of their degree. Internships at MIRO provide opportunities for motivated, young professionals to learn and participate inengaging work at the research and development.

This is a free internship programme to motivate students to learn forestry and to gain research experience and knowledge. We seek interns with diverse backgroundsand who are passionate in research.

The candidate will report directly to the Head of Research and Development department and be based at the company’s plantation near Agogo, Ghana.

The intern can select his/her area of interest in the following areas:

- Clonal development and evaluation in tree species
- Nursery management practices
- Development of breeding strategies in tree species
- Growth and genetic evaluation studies
- Silviculture management practices in forestry plantations

Qualifications

Students pursuing Bachelor's/Master’s degree required in life science such as forestry, environmental studies, science, natural resources from recognised universities.

A very high competence and understanding of the above areas is an absolute requirement (do not apply if you have limited understanding of these areas).

- Ghana or ECOWAS nationals a distinct preference.
- Basic research skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
- Highly responsible, self-motivated
- Detail-oriented, organized and efficient
