A reputable local NGO operating in the Brong Ahafo region is currently recruiting for the under listed position. The incumbent will work out of the its office in Kintampo in the Kintampo Municipality of the Brong Ahafo region.

  • Position: Business Development Specialist
  • Report to: Project Manager
  • Location: Kintampo, Brong Ahafo Region
  • Level of Effort: Office (20%). Field (80%)
  • Travel: Within and out of project area: Up to 80%. 
 
 Position Description
 
The Business Development Specialist is directly answerable to the Project Manager. He/she is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, coordination and reporting on the Business Development and Access to Finance components of the project for the MSMEs and Producer Associations or groups. This includes working in close collaboration with the project team and partners to achieve the  overall and specific entrepreneurship development objectives of the project.
 
This shall include:
 
  • Lead project outreach and recruitment of project clients: existing women and youth MSMEs for upgrading and start-ups
  • Lead the design and execution of the business development support to identified MSMEs and producer associations to ensure business upgrading, profitability, job creation and increased incomes.
  • Identify, develop and maintain good collaborative relationship with collaborating partners (government, NGO, private sector) to enhance technical delivery business development and access to finance components of the project.
  • Lead VC analysis and identification of relevant actors, business potentials and VC issues
  • Build a strong network on mentorship and a training programme for the mentors to support MSMEs
  • Lead market analysis and input and output market linkages for clients / business associations
  • Lead identification and integration of environmental issues /concerns in emerging / on-going businesses
  • Develop partnerships with financial institutions to facilitate banking relationships with participating enterprises
  • Liaise with financial institutions to develop clear and consistent standards for access to finance for participating enterprises
  • Develop clear training modules to train participating enterprises on path to access to finance

Required Skills or Experience

  • Masters degree  or equivalent in Development Studies, Business Management, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Development Management, Development Planning, Social Sciences  or other development and business related fields
  • Five years experience is project management at a senior level
  • Seven (7) years minimum field experience in development work, business development support, or other related field
  • An understanding of how business incubation is used in developing entrepreneurship
  • Experience in MSME/enterprise development in emerging markets
  • Experience in business incubation and mentorship programme development and implementation, curriculum development and training.
  • Strong knowledge, skills and experience in gender and gender mainstreaming
  • Strong knowledge of environment and climate change adaptation issues particularly relevant in the MSME sector.
  • Excellent management skills
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Very strong interpersonal skills to support effective work through project stakeholders and partners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
