Due to our strong pipeline of projects we may have an opening for an experienced Resident Engineer: Roadworks. The role would be based in Tema, Ghana.

The Resident Engineer: Roadworks leads the construction supervision (CS) team supervising the construction of the road intersection.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Resident Engineer: Roadworks is responsible for:

  • Actively addressing issues as raised by the project team by providing guidance or resolution either personally or through delegation to the CS team members.
  • Mentoring and developing a team of CS professionals.
  • Chairing progress meetings with contractors
  • Administering one FIDIC Yellow Book construction contracts as the representative of The Engineer with particular attention to HSE, quality, project progress, progress payments and changes.
  • Supervising construction activities and providing technical guidance to inspectors and other staff.
  • Advising senior management of the status of project progress, decisions and changes.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Quality Management System.
  • Obtaining support from the Quality Manager in implementing the quality assurance procedures
  • Supporting preparation of periodic (weekly, monthly) and ad hoc reports and project metrics.
  • Participating in project/program risk assessment activities and reviewing a project-level risk register.
  • Assisting in the review of the design consultant’s / design-build contractors design of the Works
  • Collaborating with the Project Controls staff in assessing progress against programme and earned value.
  • Collaborating with the project controls and commercial teams in assessing impacts of proposed changes of scope, schedule and cost.
  • Assisting in the review and finalization of overall project schedules and progress monitoring.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction site environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position overseeing CS staff and other personnel on major infrastructure programme during construction phase.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the employ of an engineering consulting firm.  


Specific Skills Required:

  • This position requires sound problem resolution, judgment, decision-making, troubleshooting skills and the ability to advocate and direct the implementation of project management systems.
  • Leadership and negotiation skills to resolve project related issues.


Personal Attributes:

  • Team leader / decision maker – ability to identify skill gaps in team members and implement appropriate development.
  • Focused on client delivery – attention to detail and quality with a capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Empathy towards staff and colleagues – collaborative management style

Other Comments:

  • Eligibility to work in Ghana (due to nationality or work permit) is an advantage.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Member of professional organisation.
