Doctors with Africa CUAMM is an Italian NGO founded in 1950 and committed to promoting the right to health and improving access to quality healthcare in Africa. CUAMM works in partnership with local health authorities and communities, supporting health services, strengthening health systems, and training healthcare professionals, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations. In 2026, CUAMM opened its office in Accra, Ghana, marking the beginning of its presence in the country.

Objective

To ensure the effective and accurate management of the project’s financial and administrative activities, maintaining proper accounting records, timely payments and reconciliations, compliance with organizational, donor and legal requirements, and the availability of complete and reliable financial documentation for reporting and audit purposes.

Expected results

  • Accurate, complete and up-to-date financial records maintained in compliance with CUAMM policies, donor requirements and Ghanaian financial regulations;

  • All payments, procurement transactions, taxes and statutory obligations processed accurately, timely and with complete supporting documentation;

  • Monthly cash, bank and project reconciliations completed on time, with petty cash and financial discrepancies properly managed;

  • Project, staff and administrative documentation systematically maintained, scanned and filed in accordance with organizational and donor requirements;

  • Financial information and documentation readily available for reporting, monitoring and audit purposes, with effective support provided to the project and coordination office.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with state financial legal requirements and donor/organization guidelines;

  • Prepare procurement supporting documents and keep track of orders, purchases and deliveries;

  • Check, prepare & do payments through cash, cheque, bank transfer;

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements;

  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations by preparing necessary tax filings and documentation;

  • Keep detailed documentation of expenses (invoices, receipts...) and financial movements;

  • Update the accounting system of the project;

  • Collect bank statement and prepare monthly bank, cash & reconciliation keep and manage petty cash;

  • Monthly scan and upload all relevant project documents and expenditures justification;

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the site office;

  • Keep update staff folders (employment contract, documents, and leave request forms) and files (annual leave, attendance sheets);

  • Control, with the support of logistician, that the log-sheet of vehicles, motorbikes and office generator are correctly field and kept;

  • Revise and file all the supportive document according to donor's requirement;

  • Support the coordination office in preparing all needed financial documents for audit process.

  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities related to the position as assigned by the first or second-line manager.

Organizational and coordination relationships

  • The Accountant will work under the direct supervision of the Project Administrator, with the Project Manager acting as the second-line manager.

  • The Accountant will coordinate closely with the CUAMM team (project, logistic etc..) to ensure the smooth implementation of administrative activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in a similar position, in Accra.

  • Candidates must be legally resident in Ghana and hold a valid permit or authorization to work in Ghana.

  • Good knowledge of procurement processes;

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure;

  • Good communication and teamwork skills;

  • Good in MS Office and accounting softwires;

  • Fluent in English and at least one Ghanaian local language. Knowledge of Italian will be considered an additional asset.

  • Candidates must be legally eligible to be employed and taxed in Ghana.

  • Certification in procurement, finance or accounting is an advantage.

Salary

The salary offered will be determined within this range, taking into consideration the candidate’s relevant professional experience, educational background and qualifications, certifications, and skills relevant to the position.

Duration

Initial contract of approximately 9 months, corresponding to the current project implementation cycle of the first year, including a 3 months probationary period as provided for by applicable legislation.
