JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Electrician to join our in-house Construction Project Team. The primary purpose of this role is to execute all electrical installation works for new construction projects and major renovations across our branch network. This includes installing power distribution systems, lighting, security systems, and heavy-load electrical panels required to support heavy-duty workshop equipment and machinery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, terminate, and connect electrical wiring, conduits, cable trays, switchgear, distribution boards, and circuit breakers in new construction projects (offices, showrooms, and heavy-duty workshops).
  • Perform rough-in and finish electrical work according to approved architectural and structural drawings.
  • Install and connect specialized high-amperage power outlets and 3-phase supply systems required for heavy-duty workshop equipment (e.g., welding machines, hydraulic lifts, and diagnostic tools).
  • Install external lighting, security lighting, and perimeter electrical systems for branch facilities.
  • Size and install appropriate cables, busbars, and protective devices for heavy electrical loads (motors, compressors, and industrial machinery used in servicing bays).
  • Ensure proper earthing/grounding systems are installed for all workshop equipment to protect both personnel and sensitive electronic components.
  • Install and commission backup power systems, including diesel generator sets, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for critical office and workshop areas.
  • Accurately interpret architectural, structural, and electrical blueprints to determine the routing and placement of all electrical components.
  • Coordinate with civil engineers, plumbers, and other trades to avoid clashes and ensure seamless integration of electrical systems within the building structure.
  • Provide technical input on electrical material quantities (Bill of Quantities - BOQ) for procurement purposes.
  • Conduct insulation resistance testing, continuity tests, and polarity checks on all installed circuits.
  • Perform load testing on distribution boards to ensure they can handle the operational demands of the facility.
  • Prepare and submit test reports, as-built drawings, and handover documentation to the Project Manager upon project completion.
  • Provide operational training and basic troubleshooting guidance to branch maintenance staff prior to project handover.
  • Ensure all electrical installations strictly comply with the Ghana Building Regulations, Electricity Regulations, and IEC/NEC standards.
  • Implement strict adherence to site safety protocols, including the use of appropriate PPE, proper isolation procedures, and adherence to permit-to-work systems.
  • Identify and rectify any electrical hazards on construction sites immediately.
  • Supervise and manage electrical subcontractors and apprentices on site when required.
  • Monitor the usage of electrical materials on-site to minimize waste and prevent theft.
