Job Summary
The Fleet Maintenance Officer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. The role ensures that all vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards, minimizing downtime and maximizing fleet efficiency while controlling maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle condition and ensure timely servicing and repairs.
- Ensure all vehicles meet safety, roadworthiness, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage vehicle inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Coordinate breakdown repairs and emergency maintenance activities.

Workshop Operations
- Supervise mechanics, technicians, and workshop staff.
- Allocate repair and maintenance tasks effectively.
- Monitor workshop productivity and quality of work.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
Cost Control and Budget Management
- Monitor maintenance expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Control spare parts inventory and procurement.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and negotiate with suppliers and service providers.
- Analyze maintenance trends and recommend improvements.
Fleet Performance Monitoring
- Track vehicle availability, downtime, fuel efficiency, and maintenance costs.
- Prepare periodic fleet maintenance reports for management.
- Identify recurring vehicle issues and implement corrective actions.
- Recommend vehicle replacements and fleet renewal strategies.
Required Skills or Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Transport Management.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in fleet maintenance management or automotive workshop supervision.
- Professional certifications in automotive maintenance or fleet management are an advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair procedures.
- Excellent leadership and supervisory skills.
- Cost-control experience.
- Knowledge of fleet management systems and MS Office.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and report-writing abilities.
- Good knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
