The Role
The Laboratory Scientist is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory diagnostic services to support quality healthcare delivery at the MSIG Tema Centre. The role ensures compliance with laboratory quality standards, infection prevention protocols, and organizational procedures while supporting clinicians with effective diagnostic information for client management.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Service Delivery
- Conduct laboratory investigations and diagnostic tests in accordance with approved laboratory standards and protocols.
- Collect, process, analyze, and store laboratory specimens appropriately.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of laboratory results to clinicians and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain proper documentation and records of laboratory tests and results.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality assurance systems and infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
- Conduct routine quality control checks on laboratory equipment, reagents, and testing procedures.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory specimens and waste according to safety guidelines.
- Participate in laboratory audits and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen service delivery.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment effectively, ensuring functionality and prompt reporting of faults.
- Monitor stock levels of laboratory reagents, consumables, and supplies and report shortages promptly.
- Support proper inventory management and storage of laboratory materials.
Client Care & Collaboration
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and excellent client care standards always.
- Collaborate effectively with clinicians and other center staff to support quality client management.
- Provide guidance to clients on specimen collection procedures where necessary.
- Promote client-centered care and uphold MSIG values and safeguarding standards.

Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or a related discipline.
- Registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana and in good standing.
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant post-qualification experience in a reputable health facility.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality assurance systems and infection prevention protocols.
- Computer-literate with good reporting and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be client-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to quality healthcare delivery.
