Purpose of Job

To provide comprehensive safety services (Compliance and Projects) to AECI Ghana by initiating and coordinating efforts to prevent and/or minimize incidents in order to ensure a safe, and environmentally healthy workplace to enable continuous operations throughout the company.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To act as a Company Safety expert supporting the Operations Manager (or Manager responsible for SHEQ) to develop and maintain an action plan to continuously improve all aspects of safety management while enforcing company SHE Policies (Safety, Compliance and Projects) to ensure that both personnel and machinery are safe and secure.
  • To maintain an effective, SHE Systems which comply with the requirements of ISO 18001 as well as AECI Group SHE guidelines while ensuring that the safety of personnel and machinery is not impacted negatively by operational activities and to have safe and healthy employees.
  • To ensure that new and current legal, company and other requirements are known to ensure that compliance is enforced.
  • To address, monitor and action plan company SHE requirements to ensure compliance or progress towards compliance to legal and best practice in the industry.
  • To ensure that HAZOP and risk assessments exercises are conducted for any new and existing projects that require such to ensure successful safe operations of projects.
  • To operate as the main safety training/induction officer (mentor) for new and existing employees in all areas of function in collaboration with the human capital training officer; ensures the facilitation and coordination of Company SHE training needs to ensure all employees and contractors are competent in terms of SHE knowledge to work safely.
  • To produce report on all areas as required to guide management for efficient operations.
  • To perform any other duties as the exigencies of the job require to ensure efficient and continuous business operations

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, Health and Safety Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of SHE experience in an explosive or mining or manufacturing industry at the supervisory to middle-management level
  • Professional qualification in occupational safety or health e. g. Nebosh or IOSH certificate
  • Certificate of competence in blasting and HSE Superintendent
  • Ability to asses risks and take or recommend appropriate action or mitigation
  • Should be knowledgeable in Minerals and Mining Regulations L.I 2177 and L.I 2182
  • Experience with ISO 18001 Management Systems
  • Knowledge of SHE Policies and Standards, Auditing procedures and Legal Requirements
  • Holder of a valid Ghanaian driving license class C
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Computer literate and good skills MS Office especially word and excel
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Good report writing skills
