Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of the SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR AT THE KUMASI CENTRE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH (KCCR), KNUST, KUMASI.

The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) is a joint venture of the Ministry of Health, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, and its School of Medical Sciences (SMS) together with Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Hamburg, Germany. KCCR offers an international platform for promoting bio-medical research between Ghanaian scientists and the international scientific community.

The Scientific Director (SD) leads and manages the institute in cooperation with the Head of Administration.

The SD develops and proposes the overall strategic vision of KCCR. The incumbent ensures that KCCR works in close collaboration with BNITM, KNUST, MoH and is also responsible for developing and maintaining close collaborative relationships with relevant international institutions and their key actors.

The SD reports to the members of KCCR Advisory Board and to the BNITM Board of Directors on key issues relevant to the management of KCCR and the coordinated implementation of KCCR research agenda.

Description of Duties

  • Provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction in the areas of research within the framework of KCCR research agenda
  • Serve as liaison between KCCR and its stakeholders KNUST, Ghana Ministry of Health and the BNITM
  • Promote and support collaborative and interdisciplinary research at KCCR on a national and international level
  • Oversee the performance of excellent and relevant research at the institute and reports to the stakeholders
  • Represent KCCR at national and international high-level meetings and raise its visibility and influence within the national and international research network
  • Co-ordinate and strategically develop the research portfolio of KCCR
  • Serve as liaison between KCCR and the Principal Investigators on the platform of all research projects on scientific matters
  • Serve as the liaison between KCCR and the Ghanaian scientific community associated with research in tropical medicine
  • Mobilize extra budgetary resources to meet the needs of the KCCR.

Qualifications

  • The Scientific Director should be a reputable Ghanaian Senior Scientist with a PhD and as background in medical sciences or bio-medical sciences.

Terms

The SD will be appointed jointly by the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST and the Chair of the Board of BNITM, for three years with an option of renewal for additional terms. Remuneration is provided on the basis of the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience.
