Job Summary

The Fleet & Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, servicing and scheduling the availability of the company’s vehicle fleet. This role ensures that all company vehicles are roadworthy, cost-effective, compliant with regulations, and available to support manufacturing distribution/ deliveries and the safety of staff usage. The position oversees the vehicle workshop, mechanics, drivers, and all fleet-related repairs and servicing of the company in both the Tema Factory and the Accra Offices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fleet Operations

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the company’s vehicle fleet (trucks, delivery vans, staff vehicles, forklifts, etc.).
  • Ensure vehicles are available and reliable to always support delivery schedules.
  • Monitor vehicle usage, mileage, and condition.
  • Track the vehicles’ usage and destinations on daily basis.

2. Maintenance & Repairs

  • Plan and control preventive and corrective maintenance and servicing of all vehicles.
  • Supervise all mechanical repairs, servicing, bodywork and tyre management.
  • Approve repair jobs, job cards, and quality of completed work before handing vehicle to assigned user.
  • Liaise with external garages, parts suppliers and service providers when required.

3. Workshop Management

  • Supervise workshop staff including auto-mechanics, auto-electricians, and their trainees.
  • Allocate work and monitor productivity and repair turnaround times.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and cleanliness.

4. Spare Parts & Inventory

  • Manage spare parts, lubricants, tyres, batteries and workshop consumables.
  • Ensure critical spares are available to avoid vehicle downtime.
  • Control stock, prevent losses, and verify parts usage against repairs.

5. Cost Control

  • Monitor and control fleet maintenance and repair costs.
  • Approve purchase of spare parts and external repairs.
  • Track cost per vehicle and identify high-cost or problematic units.

6. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all vehicles are licensed, insured, and roadworthy.
  • Enforce vehicle safety, workshop safety and driver compliance.
  • Investigate accidents, breakdowns and vehicle misuse.

7. Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, fuel and parts usage.
  • Prepare monthly fleet and maintenance reports for management.
  • Provide data to support budgeting and fleet replacement decisions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or related field.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in fleet or vehicle workshop management.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong experience with trucks, delivery vehicles and light commercial vehicles.
