Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (“UMAA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
UMAA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Service Crew.
This is Obuasi based Fixed Term Contract position with a competitive work roster at its operation in Obuasi. Remuneration package includes attractive salary and performance-based incentive payments for the right candidate.

The Service Crew plays a vital role in supporting underground mining operations by installing, maintaining, and repairing essential services including water, air, paste, and ventilation systems. This role is critical to ensuring safe, continuous, and efficient operations throughout the underground workings.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support production and development teams by ensuring services are in place and functional.
- Safely operate equipment such as IT loaders, telehandlers, and EWP (Elevated Work Platforms) as required.
- Conduct regular inspections of services and report hazards or faults immediately.
- Follow all site safety procedures and policies, including proper use of PPE and completion of pre-start checks.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, shift bosses, and other crew members to coordinate tasks and priorities.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and ongoing training
- Install and maintain underground services such as:
- Ventilation systems (vent bags and fans)
- Water and airlines
- Paste and reticulation systems
- Dewatering and pump setups
- Perform general infrastructure tasks including:
- Installing barricades, signage, and ground support systems
- Conducting scaling and wash-downs
- Assisting with ventilation changes and wall maintenance
Required Skills or Experience
- Minimum of a High School Certificate (WASSCE).
- Technical or vocational training or certification in underground service crew.
- At least 1-3 years of experience in underground mining with prior experience in a service crew role.
- Valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive SUV underground.
- Knowledge of underground service systems and safe work practices.
- Physically fit and capable of working in challenging underground conditions.
- High regard for workplace safety and hazard awareness.
- Underground mine certifications (e.g., working at heights, confined space).
- Ability to read and understand instructions, plans, and service layouts.
