MIS Data Science Manager - Telecel Ghana

Role Purpose

The MIS & Data Science Manager’s role is to apply a mixture of quantitative and qualitative analysis to build custom financial models used for weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly forecasts and to inform company-wide decision making.

Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers and conducting pre-processing of structured and unstructured data and design, develop, and maintain management information systems (MIS) to provide timely and accurate reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs).

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the financial success of our customer base by analyzing subscriber data and identifying opportunities to enhance profitability. Develop and implement strategies that increase revenue, reduce churn, and optimize operational costs.
• Analyze cell site data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and network efficiency. Conduct in-depth analysis of cell site data, including traffic patterns, utilization, and operational costs.
• Leverage machine learning models to identify and capitalize on opportunities to cross-sell prepaid and hybrid products to our existing customer base, boosting revenue and strengthening customer loyalty.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of our revenue recognition processes by conducting thorough audits and reviews to validate revenue transactions, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.
• Empower all key decision-makers with data-driven insights by providing intuitive self-service analytics and visualization capabilities.
• Collaborate with the finance decision support team (Technology) to generate actionable insights on cell site profitability and track regional performance and the finance decision support team (Consumer & Enterprise) on Subscriber Profitability.

• Utilize advanced data analysis techniques (e.g., statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining) to extract meaningful insights from large datasets.
• Develop and maintain data dashboards and visualizations to communicate effectively to various stakeholders.
• Lead and participate in data science projects, from problem formulation to solution implementation, to address business challenges and opportunities.
• Must have a natural inclination for seeking out innovative ideas and opportunities
• Should exhibit creativity in approaching everyday challenges in the workplace
• Design, automate and disseminate interactive business reports to generate actionable insights.
• Train end-users on the use of data and analytics software or tools

Who we are looking for

• Good applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc. Proficiency in statistics is essential for data-driven decision-making.
• Highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data and a passion for machine-learning and research.
• Understanding of machine-learning and data mining technologies. Good knowledge of machine learning methods like k-Nearest Neighbours, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests.
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics, Actuarial Science.
• Prior experience in the telecoms industry (an advantage but not required)
• Knowledge in AI/ML, ERP such as SAP, Oracle Fusion etc, SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, and other relevant system software
• Knowledge of revenue streams within the telecoms industry (an advantage but not a requirement)
• Excellent attention to detail
• Experience using excel
• Ability to communicate confidently both orally and in writing. Presentations to the business is a normal requirement for this role.
• Must have good people skills to support working closely with the financial teams within the business.
