Wholistic Medical Center, a 100-bed Medical Center requests the services of the following professional as Sleep Scientist
Job Summary
The Sleep Scientist is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and research of sleep disorders and related physiological functions. The role involves conducting sleep studies (polysomnography), analyzing sleep data, supporting the management of sleep-related conditions, and contributing to clinical care or scientific research aimed at improving sleep health and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sleep Study Preparation and Conduct
- Set up and calibrate sleep monitoring equipment for overnight or daytime studies (e.g., polysomnography, CPAP titration, MSLT, MWT).
- Prepare patients for sleep studies, including explaining procedures and fitting sensors and electrodes.
- Monitor patients during sleep studies to ensure accurate data collection and patient safety.
2. Data Analysis and Interpretation
- Score and interpret sleep studies according to established clinical and research protocols (e.g., AASM standards).
- Identify abnormalities such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, and parasomnias.
- Compile detailed sleep reports for review by sleep physicians or research teams.

3. Patient and Clinical Support
- Assist sleep physicians and technologists in diagnosing and managing sleep disorders.
- Educate patients on sleep hygiene, therapy options, and equipment use (e.g., CPAP/BiPAP).
- Provide support and troubleshooting for patients undergoing sleep therapy.
4. Research and Development
- Participate in clinical trials and research projects related to sleep health and performance.
- Analyze and interpret research data; contribute to publications, reports, and presentations.
- Assist in developing new methods, tools, or interventions to assess or improve sleep quality.
5. Quality Assurance and Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure that sleep laboratory equipment and software are maintained, calibrated, and functioning properly.
- Adhere to safety and infection control standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all patient data and research findings.
6. Education and Collaboration
- Stay current with developments in sleep science and technology.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, biomedical engineers, and other allied health professionals.
- Provide training or mentorship to junior staff, students, or interns.
Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sleep Science, Physiology, Biomedical Science, Neuroscience, or a related health field.
- Certification or eligibility for registration with a recognized body (e.g., Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists - BRPT, or equivalent).
- Experience in conducting and scoring polysomnographic studies.
- Knowledge of sleep physiology, respiratory and neurological monitoring techniques.
- Proficiency in sleep data software (e.g., Compumedics, Natus, SomnoMedics, or similar).
- Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and patient interaction abilities.

Desirable Skills
- Experience in sleep research or academic publication.
- Competence in data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, SPSS, R).
- Familiarity with circadian rhythm studies or cognitive performance testing.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
