Programmes Coordinator

Salary commensurate with experience.

Job Purpose

HOLIDO is seeking committed and self-motivated team player to join a team of experts as District Supervisor to implement a 3-year project that seeks to eliminate harmful practices and promote health and wellbeing of women and children along the border regions of Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo.

The District Supervisor shall be responsible for promoting the rights of women and girls and sensitising community members to stop violence against women and eliminate harmful traditional practices against women, particularly Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The Supervisor will be responsible for implementing and monitoring field activities, providing guidance, resources and logistics to Community Animators to carry out project activities effectively and efficiently. The position is accountable to the Programmes Coordinator.

Functions / Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities and functions of the Supervisor include the following:

  • The organization and execution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns on the project in his/her district of operation
  • Raising community awareness about the harmful effects of female genital mutilation (Excision)
  • Organization and conduct of educational talks in the villages
  • Periodic planning of activities to be carried out
  • Periodic preparation of activity reports
  • Evaluation of the activities carried out with the beneficiaries.
  • Organise consultative meetings with local authorities to present the project and build relationship and motivate community members to collaborate.
  • Determine community priorities and plan to sustainable ways of addressing them
  • Organize community sensitization and awareness towards eradicating harmful traditional practices that violate human rights, particularly Female Genital Mutilation.
  • Monitor and collect data and relevant information for reports
  • Build partnership with key stakeholders at the district level such as the District Assembly, Ghana Health Service, NCCE, Department of social Welfare and like-minded civil society organizations in the operational area
  • Perform any other duties as and when the Management deems fit in the interest of the organization.

Required Skills or Experience

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Development Studies, Education, Program Management or any related field   

Experience

  • At least three years work experience working in community development or NGOs
  • Experience using Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and other participatory development approaches

Language Requirements

Fluency in spoken and written English and one or more dominant local languages of the operational area

Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication including written and spoken fluency in at least one local language of project district  
  • Good leadership and strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and carry out activities within deadlines
  • Should possess excellent analytical, monitoring, evaluation, project management and report writing skills
  • Must be proactive, results-oriented, innovative, versatile and self- motivated.
  • Familiarity and experience working with NGOs / CSOs in Ghana
  • Willingness to stay and work in the project district and work in hard-to-reach areas
  • Strong team player with the ability to quickly establish and build effective working relationships with people at all levels, from different backgrounds
  • Pro-active approach to identifying and resolving problems
  • Computer literate; proficient user of MS Office programmes including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
