Transport Officer - Prosupport Services Company Limited

We are seeking a dynamic Transport Officer with a strong background in vehicle mechanics and maintenance to join our high-volume FMCG operations team. In this role, you will oversee the efficient management of our fleet for goods distribution, ensuring seamless haulage and movement of products across Ghana.

The ideal candidate must currently be employed by one of Ghana's top FMCG companies (e.g., Unilever Ghana, Guinness Ghana Limited, Accra Brewery Limited, Nestlé Ghana, Gold Coast Matcom Ltd, or Interbrands Ghana Limited) known for extensive logistics and supply chain demands.

You will leverage your technical expertise to minimize downtime, optimize costs, and comply with regulatory standards in a fast-paced environment where timely delivery is critical.

Tasks

• Coordinate daily scheduling, routing, and dispatching of vehicles for haulage and distribution of FMCG products, ensuring on-time deliveries to retailers and depots.

• Monitor fleet performance using GPS tracking and logistics software to optimize routes and reduce fuel consumption in high-movement sce

• Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on vehicles (e.g., trucks, vans, and articulated haulage units) to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with Ghanaian transport regulations.

• Diagnose mechanical issues, coordinate with mechanics for major repairs, and maintain records of service history, including MOTs, servicing, and breakdowns.

• Arrange for emergency roadside assistance and ensure all vehicles meet safety standards to support heavy haulage loads typical in FMCG supply chains

• Ensure adherence to local laws (e.g., Driver's Vehicle Licensing Authority - DVLA regulations, Working Time Directive for drivers) and industry standards for cargo handling and vehicle safety.

• Supervise drivers and loaders, conducting safety audits, training on defensive driving, and promoting a culture of zero incidents in high-traffic logistics operations.

• Track transportation costs, including fuel, maintenance, and tolls, to identify savings opportunities in a high-volume FMCG context.

• Prepare reports on fleet utilization, delivery metrics, and maintenance schedules using tools like Microsoft Excel or ERP systems.

• Lead a team of drivers and support staff, handling recruitment, performance reviews, and conflict resolution to maintain operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years in a transport/logistics role within a top FMCG company in Ghana (e.g., Unilever Ghana, Nestlé Ghana, Gold Coast Matcom Ltd, or similar), with hands-on experience in vehicle mechanics and maintenance for haulage fleets.
• Proven track record in managing high-movement operations, including route optimization and fleet reliability in FMCG distribution
• In-depth knowledge of vehicle mechanics, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems; ability to perform basic repairs and diagnostics.
• Proficiency in logistics software (e.g., ERP, TMS - Transportation Management Systems) and MS Office (especially Excel for reporting).
• Familiarity with Ghana-specific regulations for commercial vehicles and haulage (e.g., DVLA compliance, load limits).
• Valid Class B or C Driver's License; HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) certification if applicable.
• Training in vehicle maintenance (e.g., from Ghana Highways Authority or similar) or logistics certifications (e.g., FIATA).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for quick decision-making in dynamic haulage environments.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities to manage teams and stakeholders.
• Commitment to safety, with a focus on minimizing downtime in fast-paced FMCG operations.
