Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organisation affiliated with John Hopkins University.  For 50 years and over and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments, and community leaders to provide high-quality healthcare for their people. Jhpiego develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems and improving delivery of care.

Jhpiego designs innovative, effective, and low-cost healthcare solutions to ensure a level of care for women and their families. These practical, evidence-based interventions are breaking down barriers to high-quality health care for the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance on laboratory-related program implementation 
  • Assist with the design implementation, monitoring, and assessment of activities
  • Write/produce project monitoring, tracking matrices, and relevant reports as required
  • Work closely with the technical lead and program staff to ensure quality implementation of programs and monitor state-level spending
  • Conduct training and technical site assessments of health laboratories in collaboration with implementing partners 
  • Assist in the development of new program approaches that are linked to related services
  • Work with Jhpiego Laboratory Coordinator to implement training, maintain services, and provide supportive supervision
  • Participate in analysis of project data with M&E and program staff to guide adaptation to achieve results
  • Support teams and partners in outbreak investigations and frontline laboratory workforce training, as well as other identified assessment and project-related research initiatives
  • Perform other duties as necessary or as assigned

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) or equivalent experience in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Post-graduate training in Public Health will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated experience working with USAID programs and strong familiarity with USG reporting requirements. 
  • 3 years’ experience in management, operational, and technical expertise with a preference in public health program implementation 
  • Experience in public health as well as Medical Laboratory Science 
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and International agencies
  • Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structure, and demonstrated ability to collaborate with government-level officials to strengthen program implementation 
  • Demonstrated ability in working and collaborating with a wide range of local and international partner organizations 
  • Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination 
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing skills for publication 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams and willingness to learn and empower others 
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform  
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation regions and health facilities  
  • Familiarity and experience working with Zoom and other virtual platforms 
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Epi-Info, DHIS2, and other reporting platforms
