Underground Mining Alliance Akyem. (“UMAA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.

UMAA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced person to fill the following position. This is an Obuasi-based Fixed Term position with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi. Position Summary

The Underground Mine Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate and timely survey services to support safe and efficient mine development, production, and planning activities. The role involves using advanced surveying equipment to markup and map underground workings, monitor voids, and provide data for mine planning and geotechnical analysis and ensure that all underground survey work is performed to industry standards, site requirements, and regulatory compliance without compromising safety.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Conduct underground mine surveys, including mine services pickups, development, markups and pickups, production markups, scans and borehole surveys, and void monitoring, using total stations (Leica TS16), Lidar/Laser scanners (C-ALS, Hover Map and Heron Lite), and other survey instruments.
• Establish and maintain an accurate underground and surface control network.
• Provide spatial data and as-built information for mine planning, design, and operational teams.
• Update and maintain survey station databases, level as-builts and solids, level void, development tracker plans, and associated records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Perform volume calculations for mined material, underground stockpiles, and backfill placements.
• Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and production teams to support short and long-term mine planning.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and regulations during all survey operations.
• Prepare and submit timely and accurate survey reports, plans, and drawings.
• Assist with the implementation and maintenance of mine survey standards and best practices.
• Work closely with mining engineers, geologists, and operations teams.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and verification to ensure precision and reliability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in surveying practices, technology adoption, and data management.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Degree in Surveying, Mine Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
• Valid Mine Surveyor Certificate of Competency (as per local regulations). Experience Required
• At least 1-2 years of experience in an underground mine surveying.
• Proficiency in survey software (e.g., Surpac, AutoCAD, Deswik).
• Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, ventilation, and ground control principles.
• Competent in using total stations, lidar scanners, and other underground survey equipment.
• Excellent understanding of spatial data, coordinate systems, and geodetic principles.
• Ability to work in confined underground spaces and challenging conditions
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating license, at least B class and can drive SUV underground.
• Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends and on public holidays as operationally required.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy, and attention to detail.
