Chief Operating Officer - Press Xpress

Press Xpress is a logistics and haulage company expanding into the industrial mineral mining segment based in Takoradi, Ghana. With a strong commitment to sustainability and reliability, we provide logistics services for other companies and ourselves while expanding into the sustainable mineral mining sector. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our operations and drive our vision of becoming the first sustainable industrial haulage company in Ghana with a strong industrial mineral mining segment.

Position Overview:

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will play a key role in the operational leadership of Press Xpress. Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working alongside the leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the company’s day-to-day operations are executed efficiently while driving new mining business development.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, results-driven leader with a proven track record in operations management, business expansion, and industry partnerships within the logistics, haulage, and sustainable industrial mineral mining sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the daily operations of Press Xpress’s logistics and industrial mineral mining divisions, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and operational excellence.
• Develop and implement strategies to drive operational growth, cost optimization, and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with the leadership team to define company goals and ensure alignment across departments.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track performance and ensure business objectives are met.
• Develop and manage operational budgets and financial forecasts to support strategic objectives.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Lead, mentor, and manage cross-functional teams to foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and efficiency.
• Create operational systems for logistics and mining activities, ensuring consistency and reliability.
• Implement a proactive maintenance plan for haulage fleet and mining equipment.

New Mining Business Development (Key Focus Area)

• Spearhead Press Xpress’s strategic expansion into the industrial mineral mining segment, identifying new business opportunities, viable mining sites, and potential partnerships.
• Lead acquisition efforts for new industrial mineral mining sites, conducting thorough due diligence and feasibility assessments to align with company strategy.
• Establish relationships with regulatory authorities (EPA, Minerals Commission, local municipalities) to obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with all industry regulations.
• Develop and execute robust strategic plans for Press Xpress’s growth within the mining sector.
• Build relationships with industry partners, industrial mineral mining contractors, and stakeholders to support business expansion.
• Oversee the implementation of sustainable industrial mineral mining practices, ensuring environmentally responsible methods and regulatory compliance.

Customer Relationships & Channels

• Strengthen customer engagement strategies, transitioning from informal communication to a structured client relationship management approach.
• Oversee customer segmentation strategies for both logistics and industrial mineral mining clients to ensure tailored service delivery.
• Establish a customer feedback collection system to evaluate satisfaction and improve service offerings.
• Implement customer account management practices to foster long-term partnerships and enhance service reliability.
• Lead efforts to improve customer support channels, including assigning dedicated account managers for key clients.

Customer Segments (Logistics & Mining)

Logistics Division:

• Manufacturers & Distributors – Require efficient and cost-effective bulk transportation.
• Retail & Wholesale Businesses – Depend on reliable supply chain management.
• Construction Companies – Need specialized haulage services for heavy materials.
• Agribusiness & Farmers – Require flexible logistics solutions for agricultural goods.
• E-commerce & Delivery Services – Demand fast and transparent transport solutions.

Mining Division:

• Cement & Ceramic Manufacturers – Need high-quality raw materials for production.
• Construction Companies – Require bulk minerals for infrastructure projects.
• Government & Public Sector – Need large-scale mining resources for development projects.
• SMEs in Manufacturing – Require cost-effective raw materials with flexible supply terms.

Strategic Planning & Execution

• Collaborate with the Managing Director and executive team to develop and implement the long-term strategic vision of Press Xpress.
• Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities within logistics and mining.
• Identify potential risks within operations and business development, implementing strategies to mitigate risks effectively.

Regulatory Compliance & Sustainability

• Ensure all operational practices comply with industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
• Integrate sustainable practices within haulage and industrial mineral mining operations, including the potential for generating carbon credits for international sale.
• Build relationships with governmental and community stakeholders to foster a reputation for sustainable and responsible business practices.

Key Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, mining engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) or relevant certifications are highly regarded.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a senior operational role in logistics, haulage, or mining, with demonstrable experience in business development.
• Leadership Skills: Proven experience in managing cross-functional teams and cultivating strong team performance.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to design and implement strategic plans for logistics optimization and mining expansion.
• Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing operational data, interpreting KPIs, and using insights to drive cost efficiency and improvements.
• Communication: Strong communication and negotiation skills, adept at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: High-level problem-solving capabilities, able to develop creative solutions to operational and business challenges.

Work Schedule & Travel Requirements:

• Work Schedule: Full-time position from Monday to Friday, with additional weekend work as necessary.
• Travel: Frequent travel between operational sites, mining locations, and client offices as required.
