Summary

To develop an integrated COO function that supports with key capabilities as required from a strategic and operational perspective. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the design, enhancement, implementation, reporting, and oversight of the company’s operations, financials, human resources and compliance. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will take a leadership role in building, implementing, and overseeing all of the company’s systems, processes, workflows, and procedures.

The COO will, also, play a critical role in helping to shape and guide the future growth and development of the company.

Duties

  • To work with the CEO and Advisory Board to define core business and the key markets it competes in.
  • To ensure that develops to its best potential as a productive, commercially viable, profitable and sustainable business, capable of competing effectively in its chosen markets.
  • To ensure that is an efficient, profitable enterprise, including taking responsibility for all financial, business development, operational, legal and HR processes.
  • In conjunction with the CEO, to recruit, develop, lead and support an executive management team, taking particular
  • responsibility for the coordination of a team of Heads of Department, supporting them to set and meet targets.
  • To act as a critical resource in challenging the company’s development and ensuring sustainable growth of the business. Principal

Responsibilities

Leadership and Business Planning

  • To lead the development of strategies to develop key operational business units across the key markets the business competes in and the principal areas of business activity.
  • To work in partnership with the CEO and the Advisory Board to develop an organizational business plan and to implement required processes and approaches to achieve it.
  • To manage the Executive Management Team and to ensure that each business unit is meeting its business objectives and targets.
  • To be accountable for financial position overseeing the creation and presentation of accurate financial information, cost control and risk management.

Driving Business Direction

  • To be accountable for driving the business model developed in conjunction with the CEO and the Advisory Board.
  • To ensure an effective and efficient operating model is maintained.
  • To be an integral part and driver of the strategic planning, capex budgeting and forecasting of business requirements and decision-making process.
  • To lead the continuous improvement of all internal systems to meet the demands of as a growing business.
  • Ensure that proper infrastructure (building, systems and staff complement) is developed and maintained to support the company’s development and operations at all times.
  • To build strong relationships with key external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, suppliers, etc., to ensure correct focus and direction for the company at the operational level.

Executive Team management

  • To provide strong day-to-day leadership presence and support to ensure the Executive Management Team performs to the highest standard possible.
  • Provide clear directions on strategic goals, translating and prioritizing them into business and performance measures.
  • To oversee the development of systems that monitor and evaluate team performance creating talent recruitment, development and management plans which grow the company's core capabilities.

Skills

  • An experienced and determined senior manager with a minimum of 5 years’ work at an equivalent level.
  • Strategic vision and agility, ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into the organizational development plan.
  • A strong team leader with experience in coordinating a team’s day to day activity, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Results-driven, proven track record in exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation.
  • Strong financial literacy, able to analyze and develop complex budgets.
  • Strong operational knowledge including supporting a regulated business to be compliant across all areas of its business – environmental, financial, legal, HR etc.
  • Process-driven, confident in developing efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the business.
  • Able to support and consolidate learning and development across the business; committed to informal and formal ongoing
  • professional development.
  • Excellent communication skills and highly literate; able to operate with diplomacy, tact and empathy.
  • Essential personal qualities – strong ‘completer-finisher’, conscientious, efficient; energetic, determined and passionate about
  • 1st Degree (Hons) in Business, Economics, Social Science or related subjects
  • Project Management Certification
  • A 2nd Degree preferably an MBA qualification will be an advantage
