Gold Fields Ghana seeks to appoint an experienced and qualified individual for the position of Senior Manager of Engineering for the Tarkwa Mine. Reporting to the Tarkwa Mine Manager, the successful candidate will have full oversight of all fixed and mobile assets. The role will also be responsible for driving effective engineering practices and asset management strategy to ensure the availability, reliability, longevity and optimised performance of equipment and assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the Tarkwa Mine Manager on the appropriate machinery and equipment required for efficient mining operations.
- Approve appropriate machinery and equipment for use at the mine, including those belonging to business partners.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive asset management strategy that covers the purchase, operation, care, life cycle and cost of machinery and equipment.
- Manage strategic spares based on risk and criticality to business continuity and sustainability.

- Ensure the availability and quality of consumable spares for the day-to-day running of fixed and mobile assets.
- Maintain cordial relationships with original equipment manufacturers and service providers to ensure reliable outcomes.
- Manage cost prudently through a structured process of identification, approval, planning, scheduling and effective resourcing of work.
- Ensure all assets are designed, built and operated in a manner that eliminates or minimises the risk of fatality and injury to employees.
- Ensure the deployment of appropriate equipment, including specialised tools and Personal Protective Equipment, for the safe execution of all engineering tasks.
- Implement strategies to ensure the effective management and prevention of material unwanted events and catastrophic failures.
- Implement an asset integrity system that ensures effective management of accretion, corrosion, chemical attacks, obsolescence and uncontrolled damage to structures, equipment and components.
- Support the implementation of safety and environmental management systems in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Ensure team members are adequately trained and competent to safely work on equipment to prevent incidents.
- Maintain and lead a high-performing team of engineers and help develop talent through coaching and mentoring.
Key Requirements
- A minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from a recognised institution.
- Additional qualifications or training in business management will be an advantage.
- Must have an Engineering Manager’s Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
- Minimum 10 years experience in mining Or related industry.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience leading diverse engineering teams.
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO 55001 Asset Management and ISO 50001 Energy Management standards.
- Must be proficient in SAP, with a good understanding of the asset care module.
- Must be knowledgeable about asset optimisation concepts.
- A proven track record in operational safety is a key requirement.
- Proven leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills.
