We are looking for a talented Business Development Specialist – Senior to join our team specializing in Sales for our Power Generation Sales Department in Accra, Ghana.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Identify New Opportunities: By prospecting and identifying specific local business opportunities and target accounts, you’ll drive growth within your assigned market, segment, or geography.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Working closely with Marketing, the Business Development Manager, and Sales Manager, you’ll help pinpoint attractive market segments, lines of business, or product lines to pursue.

  • Analyze Market Data: Gathering and analyzing publicly available information and data from Marketing/Market Research will support the identification and prioritization of market and product segment opportunities.
  • Understand the Market: Attending industry and customer activities will build your understanding of the market, helping you to better identify prospective accounts and their potential needs.
  • Develop Relationships: By managing and maintaining business relationships with assigned potential accounts, you’ll identify customers’ perceived needs and priorities, and help them see the differential advantage of Cummins solutions.
  • Support Sales Strategy: Your efforts in developing and supporting new business proposals, and ensuring effective hand-offs to Account Managers, will align with and support the overall sales strategy.
  • Communicate Insights: Sharing emerging customer needs and market trends with the Business Development Manager will help shape future business development initiatives.
  • Mentor and Develop: By mentoring, motivating, and developing less experienced sales and account team staff, you’ll contribute to a stronger, more capable team.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Strong Analytical Skills: You’ll need to conduct thorough market research and analysis, connect the dots to identify trends, and summarize insights that impact the business. This includes using meaningful sources and data to expand your market knowledge.
  • Effective Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with both prospective and existing customers is crucial. This ensures repeat business, customer loyalty, and the generation of new business opportunities.
  • Strategic Sales Planning: Developing and implementing sales strategies to achieve business objectives, such as revenue growth, market share expansion, and customer satisfaction, is essential. You’ll also need to ensure you have a solid plan to meet your sales targets.
  • Networking and Industry Engagement: Actively participating in industry events, networking activities, and traveling to different territories to meet distributors and customers will help you expand your professional network and stay informed about industry trends.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Significant PG experience in Africa
  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineer, bachelor’s in business or marketing
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in both French and English to effectively communicate with stakeholders across French-speaking countries in Africa.
  • Extensive experience with Power Generation Sales
